Memeorandum competition from TailRank?

Kevin Burton just wrote me and said “we’re in public beta now.” And, so, another site, TailRank, that’s trying to help with the information overload problem pops on. It looks like an interesting competitor to my favorite Memeorandum. What do you think? I’m going to have to use it for a week to really have a good idea how it adds value to my life. I’m also going to upload my OPML file right now. Kevin writes that it’s a meme engine on his blog.

    Just wondering: Have you've seen Findory (www.findory.com)? I don't think I've seen it mentioned on yuor blog yet. I was pretty impressed with the idea.

  • Robert, it seems your OPML file is the most important/relavant information a service can use to customize a portal to each person without breaking an arm and a leg customizing each one yourself.
    If I were to take the functionality of an OPML file, and add to it hard coded meta data about my interests that were easily and universally used by online services to customize a hub-site/rss feeder and outliner/RSS bleeder to my tastes, what could we call that file? A OPML-P file?
    We would need to change name and the attributes of the file so that each service on the web would be able to add it into it's algorithm in a meaningful way. I need to give this some thought. What do you think?

  • I have been testing TailRank for about two weeks. I seems to me it is a combination of Memeorandum and Digg with the added feature of adding your own links. I use Memeorandum and Findory, and this has this potential of beating them both.
