Stefan wants to be a Microsoft intern

by on November 12, 2005

Sometimes I just write on my blog for one person to read. And that person this post is the one who decides on college interns. Well, and to show Stefan that I saw his blog where he says he hopes to be accepted as an intern at Microsoft.

How did I see Stefan’s blog? Feedster.com. If you write the word “Microsoft” on your blog, I’ll see it.

  • I don't know what else to say but thank you; I hope that one day I will be working with you hand in hand molding the future of Microsoft.

All the best Stefan ! I had also interviewed with Microsoft Canada for an internship starting January, but i guess i did not turn out that lucky.
  • Anando, did they give you a rejection letter (email) or something?

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes.
  • Have I mentioned that the Desktop Search team is hiring? :)

I know Stefan has already seen that :) Unfortunately college recruits apparently have to go through a different channel, which is part of an intricate system that I have no desire to understand.

Stefan: Yes, they did, but i found it unprofessional. After being interviewed (by an intern), i was told that i would be contacted "early next week". Forget next week, no one contacted me for the next 3 weeks. After sending 2 follow-up emails, i got a generic email stating a polite rejection.
  • Anando: I'm sorry about that treatment. Can you send me an email about who was involved at rscoble@microsoft.com?
  • Hi Stefan - Gretchen from JobsBlog here. I don't hire for interns, but our college recruiting team does sit down the hall from me, so I'll make sure they see your blog post and resume. Fingers crossed! :)

    Thanks for the pointer, Robert!

    Hi Robert,

Please remove comment no. 8. I think such comments just push potential MSFT employees/applicants away. I have agreed to join Microsoft as an intern this summer and I don't think any potential employee deserves to hear this (or that any MS intern would say such a thing).

The recruiting process (esp. college) at MSFT is the best I've come across in the industry so far. Mistakes are inevitable in any progressive effort, and good teams take steps to own up and fix them - Like Gretchen did here. People deserve to see all the recruiting goodness at Microsoft.

    Hope this helps,

    Sunny
