#42: Slinging on portable phones

Last night I was at a dinner with Chris Shipley (yes, that Chris, she runs the Demo conference) and sitting next to me were Trimergent and Sling Media. Brian Jaquet, director of public relations, couldn’t help but show me his new mobile phone running Sling’s new mobile software (not yet in beta, coming soon). Oh, he knows how to make a geek cry in envy!

That so rocks. I can’t tell you what phone he was running cause I’m not supposed to talk about “M.” ;-)

I love my SlingBox. I can’t wait to get this running on my phone (although he was using a phone that ran on a more advanced network than the lowly GPRS that mine works on, so I sense a new phone is in my future).

 

  • Chris: The problem with the "blogsphere" is that it's turning into over the air tv. Lots of channels... with all of them talking about the same stuff.

    Now I like Scobles blog a lot more now that he has this no GYM policy, but it's a bit excessive. I mean one or two articles ok.

    I disagree with anon, as GYM news all around, start-up central bloginfomericals and other stories are not, makes far more interesting, if hubris predictable. However better, deeper and richer context to "M" news should be the norm, but as far as GY, ignore wholesale, no matter what your New Agey Space Cadet Third-Party Exec Ozzie thinks. But then your blog, free as wish. But at least in my limited circle, they feel an improvement per the no GYM.

    Scoble, your blog is definitely more lively when you're talking about Microsoft, Yahoo, or Google. You come across more passionate. Personally I've found some of your latest entries, especially the shorter ones, kinda boring or uninspired. It seems like your blogging to prove a point as opposed to blogging about interesting stuff.

    Or maybe it's just me, hehe. Has traffic been more or less the same for you?

    This led me to another thought: Is there a Microsoft blog I can subscribe to for information about Microsoft's web products? I started thinking and it seems, I'm usually learning about new Microsoft products through you or the media. Channel 9 does a bit of this, but it seems to have more of a "community discussion" feel than an outlet for informing people of new developments.

    Google and Yahoo seem to use blogs to keep people updated on the latest development with their company/products. It almost seems essential to have such blog for web products. I don't want to have to subscribe to the blogs for each individual product, though I probably would for really interesting applications.

    Anyway, just my 2 cents. And Apple is sort of unique, people digg around for information about their products continuously. They don't even need a corporate blog with all the hype from fan sites. Kind of amazing, if you think about it.

    And here's the million dollar question: Would Scoblizer be a successful blog if you weren't the human interface to Microsoft?

    Sling’s new mobile software? Wow a product for .05% of the market, extreme edge at that.
  • When will PC's move in this terminal direction? I am seeing this trend happen with faster, lower latency networks becoming available, iSCSI, Virtualization extensions, are we moving back to terminals?

    I agree a Windows Smart Phone is definitly next on my purchase list too.
