#65: Cool movie blog

Wow, I’ve never been mentioned on a big-budget Hollywood movie blog before (oh, wait, it’s done on WordPress, heh!). Gia Milinovich got a cool job: she was asked to blog the making of a film named Sunshine. She gives the details here, and the blog is here. By the way, I appreciate that she showed up for a geek dinner. THAT is why I’m linking to her. I bet she shows up again at our London geek dinner on December 10. Everyone is always welcome at our geek dinners (you don’t even need to really be a geek).

Turns out this corporate blogging thing is going places. Just ask Budget Rental Car about the success of their recent blogging campaign. Thanks to Hugh Macleod for linking to that and telling us to do the numbers.

    Scoble, Alex is doing Halo.

Another Boyle and Garland flic? Honestly. George Romero does Resident Evil, low-budget B-movie post-apocalyptic/zombie/biohazard/contagious virus rip-off’s done “cheap” but “oh so serious” and now yet another spacey Alien clone. Even ‘The Beach’ just another utopian paradise, turns into ‘Lord of the Flies’ or ‘Heart of Darkness’. Still Boyle was a master for Trainspotting, but hard to screw up Irvine. Boyle sure had better luck with John Hodge.

But the overall theme of Alex? Plagiarism ahoy. Which bodes not well for Halo, but Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh called in for a rescue, with the ‘Halo Bible’ and Microsoft’s heavy micro-management. Alex is one guy, you can diss on and no one in the Script community will really call you out for it. :) Happy per his success sure, but his Scripts are certainly don’t rise to the level of John August, Tony Gayton or Tim McCanlies.

But Gia, ask if Alex is a Final Drafter or a MMS or something else. Curious as to which he would use. :)
