In Brussels, Microsoft Local goes live

I just gave a talk at Microsoft in Brussels, gotta go, there’s never enough time. I have TONS of reports to give. We’re having a great time. Anyway, just saw on Vik’s blog that Virtual Earth is now Windows Live Local and has some cool new features. We’ll have a video up on Channel 9 around mid-day today. Here’s the video of the team showing off the new features on Channel 9 (cool photography, directions, and more).

Yes this is quite good, I hope they improve the UI it is a bit tricky to navigate around, also the Business search and street searches aren’t to clear, they should have one text box for both. Plus when you get the birds eye view, the street names are gone.

Local? Come on. I don’t want to reign on Christopher’s parade, but really. It’s not Microsoft made a different product and called it the same thing as Google’s. First you made the same product as Google Maps. Then Google Maps changed to Google Local. Now Microsoft changes Virtual Earth to Windows Live Local. It’s so obvious it hurts.

I’d say this officially makes MSFT into Microogle :P

The actual changes to the product look pretty cool though
