CES hotel rooms needed…

get used to it if you want a hotel on the strip. might be better off getting one a mile or two away and taking a cab every day.

i got my room a few months back for less than half that price at the riveria!

The cheapest I could find (and that was a month ago), was around $250 at the Stratosphere Towers.

Mind you, believe it or not, this'll be my first trip to Vegas and my first CES...

Over ten years at MS, and I finally get to go ;-)

Oh, and hopefully I'll have my D200 by that time so I can get some decent pictures...

don't sleep! when you get turfed out of CES go and hit the bars and casinos ;-)

Get an RV and park out in the desert somewhere ;-)

Every big show in Vegas has a Housing Office, usually close to the mais hall. They have up-to-the-minute listings with rooms available all around. It always worked for me during the old Comdex times. Give it a try.

Try booking a package holiday to Vegas (Flights and Hotel) and appear like a gambling tourist and not a convention go-er. Cuts the price from Europe down a fair bit.

Dude, you're looking less than a month before the conference. Are you SURPRISED? The Macworld Hotels aren't exactly empty either. You have to plan this better man.

We got our room at the mirage via priceline.com for 70 something a night!....now let's see if its a closet!

uh, why not just rent a big car and sleep in it? you can lock the doors at night, and you'll have windows on all sides (that kind of room is crazy dough in vegas)

Hey don't feel bad, there are others of us who waited til' the last minute to get rooms... I'm about 2 days away from bailing. I just can't afford to pay these fees (my own fault tho).

If you lay some money down there gambling (be sure to get the Player's Card for tracking) you'll get offers you can use for next year's CES. Maybe schedule a trip there in the summer too and play on your card again. It's not only what you win or lose it's how much you play that determines who gets the free rooms. We were getting free room offers up until a month ago.

If you already have a player's card for some casinos down there and have played recently, Robert, then call the VIP desk and talk to them. They always have better deals than what is published on the web or to the general public.

I'm looking too, I saw some decent priced ones in Henderson 12miles away. I guess it's better than a complete dive off the strip. I'm still looking though. Someone rent a big house and we'll all pitch in. :)

would be the one you should go to. It's probably the most fun one of the bunch, but for reasons that are unexplainable unless you go and see.

If you have a car (driving or renting?) you could stay at one of the cities near Vegas, they're probably not full.

My wife and I are staying at the lovely Nevada Landing Hotel and Casino in Jean, NV (www.stopatjean.com) - it's a bit rustic but we like it, and it gets us out of the crazy vegas crowds. $30-60 a night is nice, too. We always stayed there during the COMDEX days.

The downside: it's 25 miles south of Vegas. If you want closer, you might want to try:

1. Look up hotels in Henderson or Boulder City - both are a few minutes' drive away.

2. There are some lesser-known hotels in vegas that might be worth a try. Look at Expedia.com and sort by price, anything with "Station" in its name will be cheap but decent. There are also some Holiday Inns that are cheap since they're not casinos, but CES is probably a bad time to get a room there.

NEVERMIND: Just did an expedia search. My god, even the cheap ones are $300. Even COMDEX was never this bad. Wow.

3. All else fails, you could camp at Lake Mead. It's a bit cold at night but it's a nice place, and it's $10 a night. :)

It looks like Nevada Landing and Gold Strike in Jean still have rooms available at $29/69. My wife and I will be there from the 4th through the 10th and would be happy to give you a ride into Vegas if you don't have a car.

At any rate, we should have a geek dinner or lunch sometime!

Check the Coast casinos. About 150/night in Henderson. Alexis Park has a few rooms though the Thurs/Fri is going to cost you a couple hun a night. Before I moved here I'd usually stay there. Priceline might be good for this.

A block from the convention cneter there is a former "Budget Suites", it's about 250 a week. Don't know what they have left. The newest Coast, the South Coast is supposed to open on Friday but they appear sold out. You'd want to rent a car, it's a few miles south of the strip.

Oh, I should have warned you about one thing re: Jean, Nevada - no wi-fi and no Internet access provided by the hotel. So you would want to verify that you have some way to connect - a cell phone that works there or a modem and an ISP with an 800 number.

We use SprintPCS to get online there, but we'll be doing most of our blogging with the free wi-fi in the CES press room...

Hey Robert - I shared a room with you before, and it wasnt too bad. I have a double at one of the hotels for CES, so let me know ...

I was just in Vegas and stayed at the Wynn for the average nightly price of $259/night. The basic room there is fantastic, however I just checked the Wynn site and they are charging $472/night! Doh! I was going to recommend it, however you may just want to set up a CES campsite inside the convention center!

Booked last night on lastminutetravel.com at the Riviera for $140 a night. I'm still sitting here in self doubt.

We have some great Suites available in the best part of the Strip for way less that that!

These are in a luxury timeshare resort called the Polo Towers between MGM Brand and the Bellagio.

I canceled my other reservation since I was mooching off him and now I'm totally and utterly boned.

I would check this site http://www.vegas-promotions.com for Las Vegas Hotel Deals. They have a lot of great promotions directly from the hotels themselves so they are usually really great rates

I found some great suite just off the strip...
www.apinsights.info they have a great deal for Press and Editors. Suites under $150.00 per night and last I heard they still had room available.

Consider renting a timeshare unit. You can often find them for cheaper than a hotel room, but you get more space to relax, often with full kitchens and other amenities of home. You may not be right on The Strip, but you'll likely be within easy commute distance for a lot less. Oh, and the quality of the timeshare unit vs. a hotel room is generally far superior.

I have a friend who booked an extra room and will not be needing it. It was for me, but I will have to work....Before he relinquishes it to the hotel, he had it reserved for about 150/night near the CES. Any interested parties? Jeff
