Cool screenshots from Flight Simulator

Ever try to land a 747? Me neither, but over on the AVSIM forum a member posted pictures of his hard landings. That comes to me from Jason Waskey’s blog. He’s an art lead on the team that does Flight Simulator, among other things. Obviously his blog covers lots of stuff related to simulators and game art. His blog is one of the better Microsoft blogs. Tells you why things don’t work the way they should (one of his posts tells you why bridges would end halfway across a river, for instance).

  • The funny thing about Flight Simulator is that Jack Thompson, (everyone's favorite nutbar attorney), has accused it of being a terrorist training tool...

    At one point, JT refers to Microsoft's Flight Simulator as a training simulator for the 9/11 terrorists: "What's next, Paul, a game in which players can practice flying commercial jetliners into the World Trade Towers? Oh, I forgot. Microsoft already did that." We're not going to dignify that statement with a retort. As these kind of statements demonstrate: Jack Thompson is, and will forever remain, a childish attention seeker.

    Wow, beautiful screen shots. The last time I saw Flight Simulator was when I was playing it on my family's Apple IIe growing up. I may have to go out and buy a copy of it to relive some nostalgia.

    I've had my own share of hairy landings in FlightSim, but I stick to slightly smaller 737-800's! Provided you don't line up with the runway late, things go smoothly...most of the time anyway ;)
    Do you have any news about the next FlightSim, Robert? I'm itching for FlightSim 2006!!
  • Funny timing of this post. The first one's the landing at Princess Juliana at St Maarten. I was a passenger there last week. Fun stuff. You take off pointing in the same direction...that's fun too if you consider the mountain that you're facing there. The big planes have to immediately bank right hard when they get in the air...the smaller ones have room to take their time.
