Microsoft buying Opera?

by on December 23, 2005

Ahh, as Om Malik says, it’s a slow news day so rumors are running wild on the blogs. Is or isn’t Microsoft buying Opera? I have no freaking idea either way, but didn’t the Riya deal teach us anything? That rumors are just that — at least until the deal is signed? All the key players are on vacation right now, though, so I doubt something is up.

That really would be very odd indeed. Surely IE isn't sufficiently far gone that it's necessary to replace it entirely?
  • Rob: no. Although I talked with one Opera fan last night on the Chris Pirillo show and he was saying the mobile version of Opera is far better than the browser I have in my new sooopppeeerrr doooopppppeeeerrrr SmartPhone.

well, word on the street is that opera's buying opera.. http://blakeross.com/2005/12/23/opera-buys-opera/

    ;P
  • it was said that google were pursuing Opera? right?

Opera's CEO has repeatedly denied that the firm is for sale. Since he owns a lot of the stock, you'd think he would know. How much Opera stock does Blake Ross own?

Either way, the Opera mini sure is better than what was already inside on my W-ZERO3 phone. Though there are some pages that don't work good.

mobile version of Opera is far better than the browser I have in my new [pooooopppper scooooooooper] Phone

Meaning, of course, that you never have even tried Symbian phones and mobile Opera, because if you had, that statement would be deadly self-evident. Monoculture is an blinding thing, you know.
  • Christopher: I've used the latest Nokia phones (I even have photos of Loic LeMeur at dinner showing me his new 90). I like the SmartPhone software best. But, I am biased. I doubt you've had the latest SmartPhones and Nokia phones side by side.

scobes..very few of these nokia's are getting v6 enabled apps. Yeah, the steve deering et al group did a good job with all that foo, yet the harverest for v6 enabled apps is still not there , the phones are way ahead of the infrastrcuture assests !!
