Dana says Microsoft better wake up!

Dana Epp is a security expert and founder of a small software company. Yesterday he wrote a post introducing us to LAMM. Tells Microsoft to wake up to what Novell is doing with Mono.

It’s 1:28 a.m. I’m awake. Oh, wait, I’m supposed to be sleeping. I work at Microsoft. :-)

Thanks Dana for the warning. Oh, and happy New Years! You gonna come to Mix06?

  1. Actually, interesting that you should mention Mono, because I’ve heard worries that Microsoft may sue the Mono project (for implenting some of the non-standard .NET libraries). In that case, it would actually be a convenient way to show Microsoft’s commitment to open standards if you guys didn’t sue the Mono project.

  3. “…non-standard .NET libraries…”

Will, are you referring to the GTK# wrappers in mono?

  7. Pfeh.

BalmerGates will no more recognize the advantages to actively supporting and encouraging Mono than they will to doing the same with Linux.

  9. Mike, I’m referring to the .NET assemblies/namespaces; meaning stuff like System.Net and such. As far as I know, that isn’t standardized; correct me if I’m wrong.

Although I think Dana has an interesting idea with LAMM, I’m sick of people saying Microsoft is too expensive for startups. Look at how cheap it is to join Empower, and look at the incredible volume of software you get in return.
