Windows Vista recording session

by on January 4, 2006

Robert Fripp, famous guitarist, was on Microsoft’s campus a few weeks ago recording the sounds for Windows Vista. Charles Torre got an invite into the studio to record and watch.

  • Robert Fripp is God. He did a great collab with Brian Eno about 30 years ago... I think Brian Eno wrote that wee jingle that plays every time you start windows...?

OK, so I see a connection....

WOW! Definitive reason to move to Vista! When will these sounds be included in the build?

A Vista Robert Fripp Sessions CD...very, very nice!
Kudos to whoever brought Mr. Fripp in!

    Yeah, Fripp is God :)
I think it was Steve Ball's idea. He is the guy working on the Audio Stack of Vista with Larry Osterman. He also very strong relation to Mr. Fripp:

"I think Brian Eno wrote that wee jingle that plays every time you start windows"

He did indeed record the start-up sound. Ironically enough, Eno is also a lifetime Mac user.
  • Ok I'll admit this is kind of cool but just because I like Robert Fripp, still won't make me switch to a PC though...:P
  • hope it's something like the CGT pink floyd cover...could launch with the "there'll be no more ahhh-ahhh-ahhhh" and then vista loads to a splash screen...thanks, you can use that idea for free.

Thank God they asked Robert Fripp and not some 21st century schitzoid man. Its encouraging to see someone of Fripp's 'class' / genre working to this end. Moreover, what a great video (despite the lack of light). Thanks for the treat.
