Engadget all over MacWorld too

by on January 10, 2006

Engadget is blogging and covering MacWorld too. I gotta go, have a presentation to give about RSS today to Microsoft employees. I’ll be watching Engadget’s coverage on my ssssooooooppppeeeeerrrrr ddddddoooooppppppeeeeerrrr Cingular 2125 SmartPhone. Oh, and if you see me in an Apple store today don’t pay any attention to that! Heheh.

  • "This blog is brought to you but our friends at Cingular and the new 2125 Smartphone" :-)
  • Dude, you're presenting RSS to Microsoft employees and Steve Jobs is SHIPPING UPDATES to his product lines that "get" RSS.
  • that engadget thing is nifty...but check out the live coverage at www.gizmodo.com, the guy is totally ripping up jobs and macworld...very funny stuff (apple should host the oscars, apple will kill sepia tone etc)...but we all know the really BIG apple news: the apple ipod colostomy bag networked to a minimac that pulls in media and allows for photocasting of undigested corn.

...and then later jobs is gonna announce that they're actually selling smalltalk this coming year.

no big surprises yet...seems so-so...guess we'll have to wait till the end of the presentation...

so powerbooks are macbooks now...how come they're not clocking it at 2.33 GHz for Core Duo like the rest of the PC guys?
  • Tetra
"Yes, this is the one you've been waiting for (unless you've been holding out for an Apple tablet PC). It's the first Intel-powered portable from Apple, and it's called the MacBook Pro. That's right. Breaking from its long-standing PowerBook and iBook labels, Apple has created a whole new brand to commemorate its first Intel-based portable. As expected, the new portable is powered by an Intel Core Duo processor at either 1.76 or 1.83GHz, 512MB - 2GB RAM, FireWire 400, two USB 2.0ports, ExpressCard/34, MagSafe power, 802.11g (AirPort Extreme), Bluetooth 2.0 EDR), gigabit Ethernet, backlit keyboard, Apple remote input, 15.4-inch 1440 x 900 display, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with either 128 or 256MB of RAM and dual-link DVI (for 30-inchers), an 80GB or 100GB drive, and dual-layer DVD burner. It's an inch thick. It weighs 5.6 pounds. It'll run Windows. We think we're in love."

It'll run Windows. Thanks for helping Apple make more money this year, Microsoft. Hyuck.

Microsoft *talks* about RSS, while Apple is delivering it - same ole same ole.

All the arrow shootin' aside, iLife '06 is a pretty awesome podcast/photocast/vidcast/blog suite.
  • hey, I think I called the podcasting upgrades in an earlier comment thread here. I thought they would be included in iTunes instead of Garageband though. Close counts doesn it?
  • Christopher Coulter
iMac Intel Core Duo and MacBook Pro....predictable, as usual. But impressive nevertheless. I hope the Intel jump increases their marketshare to 30%, being that they aren't going licencing or the OEM model. Dream world tho, but this is major a kick up.

PS - Also you saw Moore waffle-wavering on HD-DVD, saying Blu-Ray possible? Heh.
  • 30% marketshare with a $2,000 PC? You've gotta be kidding, right? My son is sad cause I sure won't buy him a $2,000 one. Not when a really killer IBM/Lenovo laptop is about $1,000.
  • Tetra: that said, I might just get one. I bet it'll run Windows Vista pretty darn well!
  • "30% marketshare with a $2,000 PC?"

What's the marketshare for Tablet PCs?
  • Scott: where do you think I learned that lesson? And, watch what's happening to the market share now that the prices are coming down. Tablet PCs had a record month last month.
  • james
hey, tell patrick to wait a bit, ibooks are coming soon.

now that the chips are in new models be cranking out a lot quicker.
  • Rick
Dude, check out their numbers of desktop/notebooks sold - quarter after quarter for the last year, for example (and that's an obsolete hardware). I wouldn't be surprised with 20% estimate. Not to mention that the hate against MS is on all times high.
You lost media war in a big way and now they are moving to PC arena with challenging offerings. They are not going to kill you but you will be bleeding and it will hurt. I'm sorry.
And they haven't started their real move to a phone arena.

    >> 30% marketshare with a $2,000 PC

Yep, why to buy BMW when Kia would move me from point A to point B. And yet BMW is doing better and better each quarter.

That was a WISH...a dream. Not that they will make it, as they need to kick to Toshiba, Sony, HP, Dell, White Box and all that. OEMs would KILL to do OSX. But Apple won't. And when they did that last time, they changed minds and bankrupted the people behind it.

They could get 20-30% marketshare in 5 years with a real decent strategy, instead of the overpriced 'style over substance' kick, tho at least now not underpowered.

You can have beige boxes for the corporates running OSX, and then standard boring but decent priced consumer units, high flair gamer Alienware-like Macs, and the pretty spacey-slick design units for the black-turtle-necked rattail Starbucks Yuppie Photoshopheads. Instead Steve Jobs gives us a menu with ONE meal. Wasted opportunity, Microsoft is darned lucky their competitors are so inept.
  • Tetra
Christopher Coulter, that's like complaining that Ferrari doesn't have a model to compete with a Ford F150.
