I’m getting into Coding Horror

Scott Stanfield dropped by my office the other day and asked “have you checked out the Coding Horror blog yet?” (Scott is the founder of Vertigo Software, the guys who wrote the Blogger for Word thing, among other things). No, but I have been for the past few days and it’s already one of my favorite coding blogs. Shows that you can start a blog and get noticed. Notice how he uses graphics and how he tries to be different from everyone else.

While you all get into Jeff Atwood’s blog, I’ll be taking the rest of the day off.

Wow, I think that being Scobleized in this case has had the same affect as being Slashdotted! I’m interested in seeing the site but it’s having some serious response issues at the moment!

I guess I’ll check back after the “Schype” has calmed down. ;-)

  5. [...] I saw the getting into coding horror post which points you to that blog. The latest post there is Fear of Writing which points you to some writing tips and hints for revising. [...]

  6. I guess I’ll have to wait a few days before I can check out their blog (as others have noticed, it’s been Scobleized).

Perhaps the reason it’s being crushed because the blog software they’re using is a coding horror, too. :-P

Yes, I used to check out Jeff Atwood’s blog on a daily basis, that was before it got scobleized and went down. ;-) By the way “Coding Horror” refers to Steve McConnell’s book “Code Complete” (marking bad code examples).

Ah……blogger for word makes me crazy, without supporting image inserting and table. Further more, there’re spam html codes generated, which the tags it publshed is not supported by blogger, Such as tag.

I’ve had Coding Horror on my blog roll for several months, definitely agree that it is one of the best coding blogs, well worth reading once it recovers from being Scobleized! :D

Nice blog – given that he started with VB and moved to .NET I totally get where the title comes from. Its good writing though.

Scoble, you’ve been talking a lot about design lately, but your blog looks pretty – oh – thrown together – spare – minimalistic – I don’t know but I’d hardly hold yours up as an example of great blog design visually speaking – so what were you shooting for?

Jorgen, scobleizer: Dvorak’s view may seem rather far-fetched, but if it did happen, he’s right about how it will be presented. :)

Innocent: I like my design. It doesn’t look like it was designed by a committee. I designed it to load fast. To be readable. To work well on a mobile phone. It does all that, and more. Works a lot better than most blog’s designs I visit lately.

Design for me is more about being functional than about being pretty. Hasn’t seemed to hurt my status, that’s for sure.

scobleizer: For the love of BillG, can we at least change the font? This Times New Roman is rotting my brain! :)

Other than that, I think it serves its purpose quite well…

I agree with you Robert (re:15) and heartily agree with Chris about the font though, anything but times!! That said, thanks for the links, added coding horror to my favorites (one of these days I’ll take the time to figure out the whole RSS feed thing!) right away. Keep it up.

Maybe there should be a build horror blog. MS rebuilds everything every day, how modular of them.

I do ever so love the new Vista True Type fonts, changed things to Corbel, and makes everything quite stylish. Those “C” fonts rock. Gets me outta your horrid Times default. Arial and Times should be banished, and Arial is an ungodly abomination, in comparison to Helvetica. For fun: http://www.engagestudio.com/helvetica/

Jorgen: has Dvorak ever been right about Apple?

Ummmm, yeah. Being one of the first saying they’d go Intel, nearly 2 years before anyone else. Being called a loony just up until now. So yes, he has been right. But he’s not God, he does get some things wrong. But then so do we all, funny how people pounce on the missteps and ignore the direct hits. Depends on your bias. I don’t know why you have such rage against JCD, even with all his faults, he’s still way way more sane than your buddy Steve Gillmor. ;)

Note to Scoble: I am saying nice things about Microsoft, re: fonts.

Well, “trolling for traffic” is a blogger religion, I mean what else do blogs live for, and it’s now somehow wrong, when others do it? Label it “having catchy headlines and be interesting” if a blogger, and a “troll” if mainstream media? :)
