Damn, that’s fast adoption. Foldera hasn’t been out a month and it’s seeing huge amounts of beta signups already, according to Shel Israel who knows the company founders. I’m getting a look at it on Friday.
And with that, I’m off to travel down to Silicon Valley for the two conferences. See ya there!

Wait! Before you get on that plane I gotta give you an early invite to Skobee so you can check it out before tomorrow’s demo at UTR.

I’ve been trying to get a Foldera account, but have not yet received one. Interesting that this is something which you have to download. I figured it would be a web app. I wonder if they support OS X?

They’re not downloads. They’re requests to get an account. According to a comment Richard Lusk (one of Foldera’s principals) left on my blog yesterday, they’re planning to show Foldera publicly at TechEd. Until then, this number is nothing more than people who want to take it for a spin. It’s still an impressive number but it’s representative of nothing more than people willing to trade an e-mail address for a peek behind the curtain.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for pointing everyone to Foldera, I really appreciate it.
And thanks for agreeing to meet with me on Friday and for giving me the chance to show you what we’ve built so far. I ‘m really eager to hear what you have to say.
Richard Lusk
CEO/Founder Foldera
PS-Please don’t tell Bill, Steve, or Ray about Foldera yet (especially Ray Ozzie!- the God of Collaboration) -any sort of a head start you can give us here will be really appreciated.

Marc,
Thanks for clearing up the download thing. We are entirely web-based.

Correction: ETech, not TechEd ;^)

Congratulations Richard Foldera’s integrated apps looks VERY interesting and is certainly the way of the web future for the GYM club. In fact Microsoft Live is exactly the same idea with one twist. Microsoft are building webtop apps that still have one foot on the desktop and one leg on the web.
As Richard points out Ray Ozzie is the king of collaboration and the next version of Office with Groove and Vista with its Windows RSS object repository and Meta Search will certainly bring Microsoft right back into the fight.
As for 4000,000 people signing up in the first month that is a great example of “Piranha Marketing”.
There is a group of internet users – myself included – who move on mass to the latest greatest thing – basecamp, flickr, writely etc. Once we have devoured the new thing and our initial curiosity has been satisfied we then move onto the next thing! I wish you well Richard and hope like Flickr you are a service that people devour but learn to love and then stay with.

[...] We will see. I’ve sign up to Beta test Foldera, which is all the buzz right now thanks to links from Robert Scoble and Shel Israel. So far I really haven’t experienced a program that excites me. [...]
[...] Robert Scoble meldet in seinem Weblog, dass dieser Beta in den ersten 12 Tagen bereits mehr als 400′000 mal heruntergeladen worden sei. Das scheint mir eine sehr hohe Zahl zu sein. [...]
Looks like SharePoint’s feature set – no clear momentus differentiator apparent after reading pages of benefits.

400,000 Downloads???? Ummm. where exactly do you download it from? Wait! You can’t! Good grief, man! At least read shit before you post about it. Is innaccuracy a core tenent of being “naked”?

Curiously missing from their IM list is Skype. If I’m going to do all of my comminucation through one app/site I need Skype integration.

Sounds great, but the reverse merger makes me think twice?

Dmad: sorry about that. Typing without engaging brain is NOT a core tenent, no. Fixed.

A Couple of Extra Zeros Would Look Good
The Shared Spaces blog entry contemplates whether or not the apparent number of 650,000 “total requests” is the actual number of sign-ups, or if it was simply the accumulated number of workers employed at the companies related to the person…
Give officezilla.com a try. I signed up for foldera and never recieved any login information. I expect to but probably in 2007.
