Memeorandum, my favorite memetracker, sports new design
Hey, Gabe, love the new design of Memeorandum! I guess that this proves that I actually do read it about 10 times a day.
There are two Memeorandums, by the way:
1) For tech news junkies.
2) For political/current events/major news junkies.
Here’s Gabe’s post about the new design.
So, what does Memeorandum do? It watches the top bloggers in these two worlds and analyzes what we link to. The more bloggers who link to a specific story the higher on Memorandum it goes. Oh, and don’t think it’s simply a tool of the elitist A-list either. If you watch it often you’ll see a lot of new blogs come through that aren’t on anyone’s A list. Why? Well, if we all link to you, you’ll get added to Memeorandum no matter how popular your blog is.
It’s like Google News, but the algorithm depends on thousands of bloggers.
Compare to Tail Rank, Blogniscient, DIGG, Chuquet.
What do you think? Have you started using a memetracker yet? Why or why not? If not, do you visit a news site like Google/Yahoo/MSN’s news pages?
MEMEORANDUM TIP? Visit the “preferences” at the top right of the page and turn everything on. I wish Gabe would just do that by default, but it makes Memeorandum a lot more interesting to me (cause then I can see a lot more headlines).

Jean: you can’t. Sorry. WordPress.com isn’t customizeable yet. I know the founder of WordPress.com, Matt Mullenweg, and he’s working on making it possible to do on all blogs, but did it custom for mine. That capability should be here soon.

I use memeo for tech…i would use them more if they were set for mobile browsing like my blog…

Best place on the internet to go to keep on top of the tech pulse at any time.

I wish Gabe would enable comments on his blog.
It’d be nice to have the option to select what look we want. I really liked the old one. But then again, I said the same thing about Digg.
Also, he should be wary of following the AJAX mob…I often visit memeorandum on my BlackBerry and would hate for that experience to be compromised due to new “rich” AJAX features.
The mobile web, while very useful handy, is still quite primitive. Lots of web developers seem to forget that.

Anonymous - Gabe doesn’t need comments on his blog as long as he has some other good contact method. I did last night about something related to memeorandum and within a few hours he responded and the issue was resolved.

I “emailed him” was supposed to be there.

I am not using a memetracker yet because the memetrackers that are out there do not appeal to me. I have certain blogs that I read for tech and political news. I would like a memetracker that does a good job for sports, because that is my passion. I used the sports section on newsvine for a while but I did not think that it was really that good.

Robert, what’s the point of tagging this entry as “Memetrackers” and “memetracker”? Isn’t that the same thing? It just seems a lot like a tactic to have more chances of people finding the entry rather than being a useful tag. If you’re interested in traffic, start talking about boobs more often :P

Robert, thanks for providing a definition of what Memeorandum is. I’ve read your posts on it for a while now but didn’t really know what it was all about - and I’m a blogger so I should really. Perhaps you should consider doing a cut and paste of your post into wikipedia cause I looked for a definition of it there and surprisingly it doesn’t mention it!!

Matt Mullenweg was my first benefactor and replier to my ancient “Blog Pro Survey” last year.
I have a WP blog, it is rotting away because I can’t do much with it graphically or sidebarishly. Yet I do love the Admin privileges you get with it.
I’m now going to see if I can find some cool WP-compliant design templates to jazz it up. Is that possible?
And THANKS for being on a short list of those who laughed, and did not insult me, over my Email That Shocked and Rocked the Blogosphere!
I will never forget that.

[...] Meme’s tracking meme’s while playing follow the leader? I’ll disclose up front that I hit both tech.memeorandum.com and megite.com several times a day. Each provides a great meme tracking perspective and are actually the only real contender I see to RSS client aggregators, since they each aggregate topical converations for me. Having said that: did anyone else notice that once tech.memeorandum slapped a new coat of paint on the page that Megite implemented a redesign too? Or maybe it was the other way around; I wasn’t paying attention that closely. Either way: Gabe and Matthew each run a fantastic service; maybe they should pool funds and hire the same designer to save a few bucks. For the record, Gabe’s post announcing the redesign is stamped 2:46 am while Matthew’s post on the Megite blog is stamped 4:49am today. I wonder if Megite picked up on the news of the tech.memeorandum change? [...]

P.S. I use DIGG as a *feedroll* in sidebar, way down there, at Vaspers the Grate, tech articles that are user ranked.

Just got back from MemeOrandum and Kotaku.
Is it for real: MS is making foot mice? foot pads? OH BOY…I *love* it. I need it. I must have two things: (1) ability to use both hands, feet, nose, elbows, rump, knees, electro-telepathy, and dream waves in computing work.
Then (2) ability to do all computing in bed on my back, due to my twice broken lower spine.
yeah, buddy, all systems are Go!

Hey Scobes,
Could you comment on the new search product microsoft is going to roll out and how it is going to beat google?
