Future of credit cards and anti-wifi laws

by on March 27, 2006

Phillip Torrone writes about the future of credit cards. Oh, I so want one. Patrick and I were having lunch with Tara Hunt, Rachel Clarke, Ernie Svenson Adriana Linares (lawyer tech expert), and Chris Messina. Patrick leans over and says "can I have more money?"

"For what?"

"I wanna buy you a Samurai suit."

I say OK, and proceed to load $35 into Second Life, which gives him 10,000 Linden to spend (the suit was 500).

Maybe I'll get him one of these new credit cards.

By the way, the other thing we talked about at lunch was the anti-Wifi laws that are put into place in many states to protect the telecom industry. Scary stuff. New Orleans is getting around that law because it's considered under a state of emergency. But, what will happen when the state of emergency ends?

  • Not to go "Google" on you, but:

    "Did you mean samurai?"

Also, by state law NO can offer 128kbps - it's just that they're offering 512kbps that apparently makes BellSouth so upset.

  • You know what else is an emerging market in SL that is going to blow the roof off anything we have seen online yet?

    SL Mortgages.
    SL Banking.
    SL Stock Exchanges.
    SL Investments.
SL Currency Exchange (treating it just like a Forex)

People are a lot more cavalier in SL with money than they are in RL. Securitization of mortgages and things which are arduous tasks in RL will probably be three clicks in SL - but because SL Lindens are pegged to the USD, they still have value.

I wonder who will be the first SL to RL millionaire?
  • Hey, I wish I knew about the lunch, but I was actually gone and on a "brunch date" - no, not going to blog about it, no photos taken, private life and not for blogging - but sorry I missed you while you were in the Bay.
  • Alex, thanks, yeah, I misspelled that.

http://www.horsepigcow.com/2006/03/brunching.html has a picture of my son and a report on the brunch.

Jeremy, sorry, we got it together that morning so no time to blog it.
  • Hey, Robert, no offense but seeing you versus a date? The girl won hands down.

Plus, I left relatively early that morning...
