The customers take over the marketing

One of the things I always loved about Channel 9 is that the customers took it onto themselves to build content for the site. Jamie is my favorite. His “GoogleParks” are hillarious. I’ve heard that they got emailed all around inside Google. He’s an extremely talented designer.

I love that Duncan took his camera to Toronto and met up with Jamie.

Remember. This is a guy who wasn’t paid by Microsoft. Just did it because he liked the community.

Oh LOVED the attempt! But no one can do the sexy laugh like my boy Scobie can. ;-)

C9 boasts millions of unique hits. However, when you look at the forums, 99% of all posts are by the same 20-30 people. I wonder how many of these unique hits actually hang around once they get sick of all the back slapping going on.

I see they have a thread about putting more forum members on video. This would be a dumb decision – the site is supposed to be about MS opening up, not giving some fanboys a platform to pat each other on the back. Within this thread there is talk of these 20 dudes meeting up. Maybe then they will be able to indulge in a real circle jerk as opposed to the constant virtual ones that have gotten so tedious.

vlad: the traffic on Channel 9 went up almost every month I worked on it, so someone was sticking around.

There’s a lot more to Channel 9 than the forums.

I agree- there is a lot to channel9 than forums. I have not actively posted in the forums, but I have watched (almost) every single video they released in the past year or so. I think channel9 is really good. Not many big companies can boast of an open culture like MSFT.

P.S. before people allege, no I am NOT a MSFT’ie.

oookay. then someone needs to tell the forum members that.

I know of quite a few people who have stopped going to c9 because of the chummy atmosphere in those forums – even though they were primarily accessing the real content (i.e. vids and podcasts) it’s human to go check out the forum buzz. this gets tedious pretty soon so you end up bypassing the site altogether.

it is a little like /. there are some good articles and opinions in there, but the signal:noise ratio is way too low so you end up giving it a very wide berth
