Rick does the corporate butt pucker

by on July 20, 2006

Rick Segal is writing some awesome stuff lately. Here’s some posts of his that caught my eye:

1) How to make a corporate butt pucker. Do you think your company has an indefensible position in the market? Look at how he tears a couple of executives’ apart by coding up a prototype right in front of them.
2) VC Checkpoints. He demonstrates how a VC in Silicon Valley got a cheap attitude.
3) A Scoble Moment at SAP. He talks about Jeff Nolan complaining about the IT department at SAP who blocked his IM. Oh, I never complained about IT at Microsoft. I didn’t complain when Microsoft blocked Skype. Nope, what did I do? I got EVDO and expensed it. Heheh! If IT turns into idiots, route around them! :-)

I complained about things I couldn’t route around like marketers who didn’t know what RSS is.

  • Robert,

I'd argue that the true title of his blog refers to making the corporate butt "pucker" rather than being a "corporate butt picker". That's something else entirely, something more ... juvenile.
  • Louis: yikes. My hands were moving faster than my brain. Thanks, fixed.
  • It was but a mere typo to be sure, but your permalink is one of the best ever now. :-)

Oh geesh, the return of the caffiene-fueled lone-coder bringing down the "man", 15 minutes of code and the world is thine, yeah yeah. They are singing that song again? How many times are they gonna cue up that one note song. A

nd IT is not always evil, quasi-geeks with their toy play-things running as Admins, mess up more corp networks than the 'don't touch' novices. IT is meant for work, geek off on your own time. IM is a serious time-waster...and the security risks are real, darned real, the web is full of nice IM spolits...

I guess some value in IM, but 5 mins on the phone, seems to equate with 1 hour on IM. Varies really, tech can make you less productive...
