Killer home theater chairs

by on July 22, 2006

Michael had one of these Barcalounger setups in his living room and I fell instantly in love. Anyone have better seats for a home theater setup?

  • Hm. I think most of the ones suggested so far look plain ugly (except maybe the Lovesac). But that's just me. I would suggest a couple of Stokke Peel. Inspired by an orange peel.

I think the Lazyboys look the best though

I am a man of many skills...or rather faking it with flowerly writing, run-on sentences and everlasting supply of overmicrowaved snark.

But let's turn the tables, is there any topic you don't blog upon? ;)
  • Tim
"By the way, is there a topic you don’t opine on?"

    You misspelled 'whine'.

    HTH
  • Christopher: good point! I wouldn't even think of subscribing to a furniture line and I cut them some slack cause they aren't in the tech business. FurnitureToday has RSS feeds, though. http://www.furnituretoday.com/index.asp?layout=...

They aren't alone. I found tons of furniture suppliers and stores with RSS feeds. Like Discount Bedroom Furniture: http://www.furnitureesuperstore.com/furniture-news.asp

By the way, is there a topic you don't opine on?

Oh dear me. Gasp, the scourge, the horrroooorr, the sheer inhumaniiity, the Barcalounger webpage DOES NOT have RSS feeds.

Barcalounger is sooo ummm kitsch tacky...like stuck in a time warp of bad taste.

But Dafeng, Lovan, Coaster, Coja, Bass, Bentley and Eastline all are pretty ok...I like Berkline best tho...

  • Hey if you want the most comfortable seat in the house then try this www.LoveSac.com
Trust me put one of these next to whatever you buy and see where people sit.

Michael, please don't misunderstand my original comment . My grandmother absolutely loved her Barcalounger she won on "The Price is Right" back in 1975.
  • LayZ
Well, Scoble did as for examples of "better seats" I simply obliged.
  • LayZ... you're absolutely correct. I just happen to love cheese. Besides, how can you resist a company whose promotional copy includes these priceless words:

"In the history of superior motion upholstery, Barcalounger has a storied reputation."

What can I say? I had a budget, other priorities, and a weakness for storied reputations.

If quality isn't really part of your criteria, I guess the Barcaloungers would do.

I went with CineTech, a company out of Dallas. Brentwood Communications in L.A. recommended them.

In the family room we have this

for the theatre room we had them custom design seats that fully recline (for when someone wants to watch Out of Africa, or Istar, or some other boring movie.

Taste and quality are obviously relative.

I just have my floor with two pillows. I've always been more comfortable on the floor. Drives my mother inlaw crazy and that makes me happy.
  • Sorry I am being a web whore and keep on posting. I worked at Best Buy when we started selling these. Then I went to a furniture store to manage it and I got more involved. Check these out. http://www.berkline.com/theater.html

Make sure you check out the different configs you can so and check out the butt kicker. And if you go to buy, most funiture stores mark there product up 100 percent.
