Trying to hire Amanda

by on July 29, 2006

Everyone was coming up to Amanda Congdon at BlogHer last night trying to figure out what she’s gonna do. Her recent video says she’s looking for work (her parents are pretty good too). I know that just ain’t true. If she wanted work she would have taken Jason Calacanis’ offer. In other news Ze Frank still doesn’t blink and still makes me laugh.

I’ll be Maryam’s spouse today at BlogHer. I’m the luckiest man in the world. And not for THAT reason.

I’ve met more amazing people, and gotten more business ideas at BlogHer than at any other conference I’ve attended. Heck, I met Steve Garfield’s mom. Why? Cause it’s outside the echo chamber of the tech industry. You knew it was different when a group of 30 just sat down in the middle of the floor to have a session. I’ve never seen that happen at a male-dominated tech conference.

Oh, I met one woman who makes $25,000 a year just off of Amazon affiliate links. Who said a link isn’t worth money?

  • Robert, you seem obsessed with the fact that Ze doesn't blink. But that's nothing compared to the fact that he doesn't breathe, either!
  • Amanda: a show on PodTech is waiting for you. Hey the Robert and Amanda show :-)
  • Christopher: yeah, life is unfair when you live your life in public eye. Just ask any celebrity about what they think about gossip magazines.

Amanda and I talked for a bit over the weekend. She's well grounded and will do just fine. She has plenty of fans cheering for her (me included) and it sounds like she has something in the works that she'll show off soon (she wouldn't give me many hints).

My my how fast hath the bloggers, whipped out the knives on Amanda...from Rocketboom will never survive, to 'a Marth Quinn has been (with a great rack)'. Maybe news overload, but something's still missing, wonder what the real story is.

But I am rooting for her, hope she gets something in Hollywood or Burbank, away from all the dreadful tech geeks. Go show them.
  • Ze Frank is funny as hell you are right. Also love Galaticast. AskANiNJA (althought he doesn't update enough).
  • Ze Frank is really funny. Thanks for the tip. Robert.
  • Hi Robert. What is your opinion of vlogs, particularly CEO vlogs?

You are talking about some woman who used to be at some vlog platform or service or whatever the heck it is, but what you could really treat us to is your insights into CEOs or entrepreneurs and Video Blogging.

Who cares about Rocketboom and talking heads?

What matters is how each of us, all hardcore bloggers, can mutate into the new vlogospheric realm of Show and Tell.

    Do you not agree?

You little devil, I was the luckiest man today also.
  • I’ve never seen that happen at a male-dominated tech conference.

The more you learn about how women relate to businesses, products, and services, the more you realize that blogging for women is going to get really, really huge. Check out what Tom Peters has to say or google lipstick marketing.

    Man, I loved Martha!
  • If you put down 5 power strips 30 guys would sit on the floor in a circle...
  • I think buzzmachine said it best about Amanda:

    Remember Martha Quinn?

I think she should be moving quickly, not holding out for "a Hollywood deal" or whatever.
  • Yep, I'm also a woman blogger, and I'm somebody's, mom, too! But I didn't even know about BlogHer. BTW, congrats on your house.
  • Um...go to a WWDC some time. I've seen impromptu sessions start in a juggling ring

Yeah, Robert, you got that right.

    Women are cool.

(You mean Amanda wouldn't even tell YOU)
