Back on the grid

by on August 14, 2006

I hate moving.

When  we got back from the off the grid camp on Friday night Maryam said “hope you’re not planning to use your computer this weekend.”

Then I saw all the boxes. “Oh, no.” I think I muttered.

Anyway, it was a fun weekend of unpacking boxes. Throwing out junk.

Well, enough of my boring life, Ryanne Hodson put together a really great video of last week in Montana. Oh, that’s the edited one. She put up a whole lot more video here.

Anyway, I’m now at PodTech. Posting will be slow this week as I catch up on email from the past six weeks.

  • Kevin: we did throw out a ton, and sold a ton. But some still made it through the move.
  • Now that you are back...you may be interested in checking this out ;)

    EVDO ExpressCards have arrived :)
  • Andru: oh, I AM interested! (I just ordered a MacBookPro).

    good to see you back!
  • You're supposed to throw things out before you move, so that you don't have to pack them!
  • Like I said over on Ryanne's post... Argh! I wish I'd been able to make this trip out from Seattle. I was planning on it and then had a good friend come visit me for a week, directly conflicting with Off The Grid.

    Maybe next time... Cheers!

    Don't jump the gun:

"Appleinsider reports that Apple is preparing for product launches as early as September:
Based on various reports from around the world, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company this week is placing WWDC '06 in the rear-view mirror and shifting gears towards its fall product line refreshes, which are due to start turning up next month.

This along with reports end-of-life notices for Apple's current iPod nano are suggestive of imminent product refreshes. This correlates with a recent Chinese report that Apple is readying both of its laptop models for Core 2 Duo "Merom" CPUs next month.

Readers will remember that pre-WWDC reports also claimed that Apple had placed large orders of Core 2 Duo processors, with analyst speculation of the same."

As someone now in a postion to be very cognizant of wisely spending your investor's dollars, I can't help but recall how you routinely beat the shit out of MacBook Pro users, telling them you could get more value for the money with a Windows based laptop. Funny those things change once the MS pod is removed from the back of your head.
  • JB: I can't wait anylonger.

LayZ: I still think they are overpriced. I'd rather buy a Dell. But a technology decision was made before I got here to standardize on Mac video technology and since iPods are our most important delivery mechanism I think that choice was well made.

Oh, and Windows Movie Maker doesn't do HD yet and we're shooting everything in HD. So, my choice was made for me.
  • Robert,

You arse! I went and posted a concerned Where Is Robert Scoble?" message at my blog yesterday little knowing that you'd been hording the posts ready for this pontification!!!

    Good to have you back!
  • Adding my collection of Off-the-Grid Eyes to the collection of Off-the-Grid Camp video.

Thanks for everything Robert and Patrick.

As of this morning, am finally back on the grid. Almost got used to being off. Not.
