How to get a top Technorati blogger to link to you?

Nice list of ways to get a top Technorati blogger to link to you. Be warned, though, it’ll piss off Mena Trott, co-founder of Six Apart, who, at BlogHer, told us to please stop making lists. But, no need to beg for a link from a jerk like me who has gotten too self important to read all his email. No, just leave your URL in the comments here along with a good sentence explaining why your blog is worth checking out.

Or, you could always invite Maryam and me to speak at your conference like ConvergeSouth just did (October 13-14 in Greensboro, North Carolina).

  1. Worth a shot…

http://poddev.comitar.com – PodDev is a new tech podcast that looks to talk to the people who are making the web the exciting, ever-changing place that it is. In our first show we talk about Apple’s WWDC announcements, Intel’s open sourcing of drivers, and the launch of CrunchGear (with an interview). Our featured guest is Paul Colton, creator of JRun and most recently an open source HTML/JavaScript IDE called Aptana.

By the way, for that domain you were trying to think of, intelligeek.net is available.

  3. No begging from me, but I do have a question: what’s Mena’s issue with lists? Lists can make great reading, both from an education and entertainment view point as well…indeed I got a good chuckle from this list.

  5. Hey Robert, I just posted a list of reasons why I think (and others think) the Bay Area real estate market will crash 35% or more from its 2005 highs by 2011. Give it a read. I welcome reasoned opinions either way: http://www.slashchick.com/

With luv, your resident real estate bear, SlashChick ;)

  7. I think that links from A-list bloggers are over rated. What you really want is a link from a top ranked blogger who already reaches your target audience. Depending on the audience you are trying to attract an A-list blogger may not be all that helpful. Often the link from an A-list blogger gives you a one time boost in hits but little in the way of new subscribers.

  9. Mostly blog recycling and some of my own thoughts on social-networking. I wrote 2 posts on my interviews with Microsoft as well..

Don’t mind the design — I’m switching to WordPress with a new one, but haven’t found the time to put it up.

…does this mean I have to write something good tomorrow?

Because we’re the only space elevator company in the world that bothers to blog.

Okay, we’re the only organization dedicated to building a space elevator but still. Worth reading and keeping in your RSS feed for novelty’ sake. News blogs and entertainment blogs and funny krep blogs are everywhere. Liftport’s blog is unique.

  15. Self important – arrogant geek statement. If you haven’t figured it out by now. If you can’t see the diamond in the rough then you must not be the geek I thought you were. Smiles and goes back to believing only the A list ever get the press.

  17. I think I had the first comment on this thread… sorry to pile on – but here’s a reason to post a link to my blog – I’m going to use a WiKi to elicit help to write a business plan – for a non=profit “franchise”. I don’t think you can get much more unique than that :)

It’s a serious issue though, and I am serious about it – so I would appreciate any help (and any comments of encouragement on my blog from your guests would be a plus).

    The WiKi idea: http://lagesse.org/?p=17

  19. I welcome the lack of a link to my blog:

My extremely reasonable conservative commentary is a little too refined for the masses and could easily be misinterpreted by those without the keen intellect necessary to understand what I am trying to say. In the wrong hands it could even be dangerous.

  21. Duncan: regarding Mena and lists.

She hates them because they reinforce a hierarchical view of blogs and puts some blogs on a pedestal. I tend to agree with that view, but it’s human behavior. I can only read a few hundred blogs on a regular basis. So, a hierarchy needs to exist for each reader.

It’s just that a pre-defined list makes it a lot harder for new bloggers to get noticed.

    Hence this post.

  23. Hi Robert,

14 years ago cancer killed my mother, now I want my revenge. That’s why I’m organising the Kill Cancer Death Rally, a sponsored drive from London to Barcelona.

The blog is personal, the name is remarkable (the Kill Cancer Death Rally – how much does that stick in the mind), we’re Stormhoek’s first European geek event, we’ve got a wiki, we’ll be creating viral content through cool partnerships ie getting grafitti artists to paint the cars.

You’ll find the Kill Cancer Death Rally at http://www.barcelonaorbust.wordpress.com – we’re still looking for people to come along, so if you’re in the UK please join.

Thanks Robert and keep up the good work.

    Tom

  25. If my little pathetic blog dies due to Scobleizing, there will be two things happening:
    1) I’m upgrading hosts.
    2) I’m going to get Maryam to smack ya.

    *grin*

We’re looking forward to you coming to CS.

  27. Of course I think this blog is worth checking out! I got this job based on my pitch that the company needs to engage the community and talk more openly (not about itself, but about the industry) – and that the best way to do that is a blog.

So far I’d like to think I’ve managed to keep the blog industry rather than company -centric, and do some interest things along the way (like free WordPress blog hosting at your own domain).

There’s millions of personal tech bloggers, but very few (as far as I can see) good business blogs. Hopefully this: http://www.hosting365.com/blog is one of the better ones.

  31. It’s not a blog, although it has one… My new(ish) web app is called Hngry (www.hngry.com). It lets people keep track of details about their favorite restaurants, find coupons in their area, be notified about their coupons before they expire, share their lists of restaurants with others, and soon, search for places to eat in other cities.

  33. Why link? I have nothing to sell or promote, but I keep things entertaining. Also, prescient: lately, about once a week or so, I post something stuff that NPR and/or the BBC cover a few days later. That probably sounds crazy, but I can prove it….It’s all part of what makes me such a complex and interesting (and modest) guy….

  35. Oh, Robert, you are both generous and insane. First you blog your cell phone number (insane) and now you offer your high-traffic blog to the little people (generous).

You don’t just talk about community, you live it. Where did you learn that?

My personal blog is GetSheila, where I entertain my friends and become one with this whole e-community thing.

    Thank you for the insanity.

    Let’s see, start again.

Robert Scoble, the Scobleizer, should link to Very Suppositious at http://www.suppositio.us because I, uh, we, try very hard to be funny, and we probably succeeded once, just ask our reader.

  39. My site is worth checking out because I’m giving away fairly good XHTML/CSS website templates for free. Those templates (which are standards-compliant, simplistic and optimized for speed and accessibility) are currently used on more than 300.000 different websites, of which about 15.000 are recognized by Technorati. That gives me a Technorati top-5 rank, although outside the ‘Top 100 Blogs’ list since my links come from footer credits.

In other words, I don’t need any link from you. But it would be really nice to get a comment on my work, so if you ever have a few minutes of spare time and want to help a guy improve his art, feel free to write me a line! :)

  45. My blog is worth checking out because I blog for a company who are trying to change the way the world expresses, shares, and manufactures it’s creative ideas. And while doing that we intend to drive low cost manufacturing out of business and save the environment. Not everyone can say that…
