  1. I wouldn’t call it Zunecrazy. The top article on the techmeme link (ilounge) isn’t really all that enthusiastic.

  4. I only hope that the built in WIFI on the Zune will be usable for directly downloading podcasts and vodcasts removing the need for a computer. The absence of podcatching support in Windows Media Player 11 doesn’t bode well for that one but it will be the buy / not buy decision maker for me as far as Zune is concerned

  7. I thought I read that the first Zune won’t have video. As for wireless, who cares? ZD’s blog “The Apple Core” has a good post on why he doesn’t want a wireless iPod (or Zune, I suppose).

Downloading over the air isn’t much of a selling point for me, but maybe that’s because I want a backup on my computer and due to how I consume my music, podcasts, etc. What’s wireless going to do to your battery life?

  10. Wireless is going to seriously drain your battery life. If I had to guess, any WiFi enabled portable media player is going to have to have brief and intermittent wireless connectivity, like when you’re syncing or when you specifically invoke it when in close proximity to a wireless access point or another WiFi-enabled device.
Has anyone thought of Bluetooth? Better battery life, but of course it has a much narrower bandwidth.

  13. While I am not all that sold on the wireless angle my 15 year old son who keeps hounding about how I have to get him a Zune when it comes out seems to think wireless is the best thing since sliced bread. His reasoning, and I don’t even know if it will work like this, is that he thinks he and his friends with Zunes will be able to go over each others houses and when hanging out will be able to stream (not download) music available over the wireless network (in our houses case over 750 CD’s worth stored as WMA on our Media Center). He thinks that will be cool and it’s why he wants one badly.

  16. Is a new PlayforMaybe Windows Media File, incompatible with anything done before by Microsoft. It’s the only format the Zune will play by the way. I got this info with the same source that Robert gets his Apple rumors… :-P
