IE 7 team shares CSS and Web Standards changes

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7.0 team detailed the CSS/Web Standards changes that are being made and also discussed the Web Standards Project’s participation.

I've been testing websites on IE 7 beta 3 with WinXP for awhile and there are still plenty of inconsistencies with how it renders HTML versus Firefox or Safari. It's funny that in spite of all the improvements, my perception of IE hasn't changed much because I'm still doing a lot of extra work to accommodate its quirks, albeit probably much less work.

Are you running IE7 on Windows XP? IE7 on Vista Beta 2 runs fine for me. Firefox, on the other hand, crashes on Vista constantly for me. Firefox is my browser of choice on every operating system except for Vista, at the moment. Which probably explains why Robert posted this ;)

I have IE7 Beta3 loaded on a home machine, man if they want people to use FireFox, just try using IE7! This software is almost UNUSABLE. Crashes, takes forever to render pages, what a horrible piece of garbage! No, I am not giving them my feedback, they want it, PAY!

It's nice to see, but the problem will still remain in which the HTML/CSS/JavaScript implementations among available browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc) will vary. It's the bane of every web developer's existance that "this" works in Firefox and almost in Opera, but barely in Opera and not even close in IE. Or "that" renders correctly in IE and Firefox, pretty close to correct in Opera and is horribly broken in Safari. It's a shame that browsers don't have to pass a test, such as Acid2, before they are released. Support for the (almost) latest specs is nice, but it doesn't solve the larger problem that browser detect/redirect scripts are currently playing the role of Band-Aid for.

Sounds good, I just hate that M$ takes so long to do any releases of IE except for patches / fixes.

How much time will go by before we have IE7.1?
