Gearing up for the ScobleShow

by on September 15, 2006

Whew, I’ve been working non-stop on getting things together for my ScobleShow. So, I’ve been letting things hit the floor left and right. Including this blog.

I missed all the Zune stuff, for instance (does it include a podcasting client?)

The show is looking good, but I don’t yet know when it’ll launch. We’re within days, though, not weeks.

I’ll have a surprise guest at the house on Sunday I hear. Yes, Christopher Coulter is flying in. Yes, the guy who gives me lots of crud in my comments. It should be a good weekend of debating and other things.

Can’t wait to tell you more!

Cesar Menendez says it'll have a podcast client. Which reminds me: it's nice to know that Microsoft has finally accepted that a rival's coining of a term (podcasting) doesn't mean you have to dodge around the name or the concept.
  • Wondered where you were off to. Thanks for the update and the hook for the scobleshow. Here's to a Friday!

    According to Zune Insider -

    http://www.zuneinsider.com/2006/09/answers_to_s...

"Zune will play podcasts. I'm actually listenting to a podcast right now. If you bring the audio file into the software (like a wma or mp3 file), you can play it on your Zune. Beyond that, there will be other options for podcasting support for future releases."

Since this is the official blog, I'd give it some credit.

They have been testing a Podcatching client.

But I'm guessing it's not coming out with rev 1.

Looking forward to your show sir.

    Show us the way ;-)

  • I wonder if the podcasts (even homebrewed) will be transmitable via WiFi like music will be. And if so... will it be wrapped with a DRM when it is transmited that will only allow it to be played 3 times.

Anyways, it is good that MS realized that just because they didn't create podcasts doesn't mean that they cannot implement the feature into their products. Podcasts might have started with Apple, but anybody can be a piece of it now.
  • where is the scoble show linky?
    /we need direct link!
  • Podcasting has been rumored, but not confirmed, in Zune.
I think it will not be in the first player, or at least not fully-functional.
It's not specified in any of yesterday's press materials, and I don't see any clear answers from Microsoft in response to yesterday's many interviews.
Even ZuneInsider's response leaves some room for interpretation.
My guess: we'll see a limited form in November, and full podcasting support integrated into Zune II.

By the sounds of what the Zun blog is saying it sounds like they can just play a podcast because it's an MP3. No big deal. Any MP3 can play a podcast.

You've not checked Techmeme recently then Robert?

Won't play PlaysForSome, will add DRM to open content (including Creative Commons licenced content - which is a nono), too big, available in Brown, no release date, no pricing.

On the plus side, it supports AAC :)
  • Robert, Zune could be a lot more than an iPod wannabe. I spoke with Steven Levy and he thinks it's the beginning of an entirely new platform for Microsoft -- and the product introduction is just the very first step. We'll see.

Good luck on the show -- can't wait. Andy

Excellent news and I guess that means you got quite a bit of decent video afterall at the SAP TechEd, https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/4450, right? I mean that is what pushed you over the top for having enough content :-)

Just playing but it's excellent to see you will be going live soon!
  • I'm really surprised on this timing to have Chris come to your house now?

I wouldn't want him around to detract you during your next phase.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall
  • Another toy is too expensive to buy. I would like to have a budget for toy coming out. Every day I see something I would like to buy!

So tell us more about Zune or Zoom or whatever it is now
  • Jeremiah: great ideas survive harsh criticism. That's why I like having Chris around.
  • Dan
I can't wait to see the ScobleShow...good name!
  • Dan
And Chris Coulter knows far too much about soap operas...what is he really doing with his time.
  • Christopher Coulter
knows far too much about soap operas

You said that as if that was a bad thing. But I don't so much as watch TV, as read. Keep up with all tho, Darla's birthday and all and your clowning around. ;)

How'd the AFT screening go? Gonna have a Friscoy screening?
  • One should not try commenting to a blog on so little sleep or while bouncing from airport to airport - the link I gave to SDN for some reason includes the comma in the end :-( and now since there are a few more comments I figured I would include another blog as well

Thanks again for taking the time to check out the event!

  • Hey Robert, you always said do a heads up in your comments system on things to check out - I'm podcast covering the O'Reilly Euro OSCon (http://techconf.thepodcastnetwork.com/)
  • Ewan, I'm off to check it out. Thanks!
  • Good luck with ScobleShow, look forward to it. There's a sneak peek Zune video that shows some of the Zune UI, which looks pretty slick.
