Google reboots its master plan

When I was at Google today I learned that about a week ago someone erased the entire Google Master Plan.

Now, this is a big white board in building 41. It’s more fun than anything serious. But, already new things are being drawn into the Master Plan 2.0. I didn’t have my still camera, but filmed it, will try to have that up soon. If anyone is at Google, can you take a new picture?

Oh, while we’re talking about Google. Matt Cutts just recommended the Daily SearchCast. Matt is Google’s best known blogger and the Daily SearchCast is done by Danny Sullivan. I’m listening, I don’t know how I missed this. It’s awesome! Daily Danny. Does it get any better?

  • Revan: the whole Master Plan thing is a joke. I think it's brilliant, though, cause every visitor to Google gets to see that Google employees have a sense of humor and they put that in their biggest front lobby for everyone to see.

    Wondering what you thought about the re-release of Google Spreadsheet and Writely in a merged environment. STILL NO CHARTS! What is with this? Is it really that tough to do?

    Compare this with Excel Services. Great full functionality with Pivot Tables, Charts, but NO INLINE EDITING OF CELLS! Specifying a cell as a named range, what were they thinking!

    If you combined Excel Services and Google Spreadsheets, you'd have one hell of an app. But singlely, each has a major flaw.

    Who is going to do web spreadsheets right? Have you seen something better from another place besides Google and MS?
  • Kurt: doing charts is hard on the Web. I'm sure that Google's working on it. I haven't seen anything yet that can compete head on with Excel.

    Robert, maybe you should interview Danny Thorpe.
    He worked at Borland for years (on Delphi), and became something of a legend there. Then, buying into the Google hype, he jumped to Google around Jan 2006, saw that it wasn't all that, and just four months later jumped to Microsoft, where he now works on Live (http://blogs.msdn.com/dthorpe/default.aspx)

    The Google-worship around here is getting nauseating.
  • Yeah, we were kind of bored with it, so I proposed erasing it. No one lynched me and so we had an erasing party. I video'd it and we took a last pic of it for posterity. I'll post em soonish.
  • I love it when Danny says "Google burn" - nothing could be more funny. I listen to the searchcast all the time. Danny especially keeps better tabs on international issues better than anyone I'm aware of.
