Apple sold out of iSights

by on October 22, 2006

So, we went down to the Apple store and tried to buy an iSight. Turns out they are sold out. The salesperson said they can’t keep them in stock. A customer behind me was looking for one too and said that they are sold out everywhere.

  • hi robert,

have you tried the online store for the isight? they say it has a 2-3 week shipping time.

    cheers,

  • Aren't some updated iSight's rumored to be coming out and hence they've been depleting their stock until that time?

So maybe it's a good thing you couldn't find one. You may be picking up an updated one soon.

I guess after some EU regulations prohibited iSights in Europe, it's about time they updated them.
So who knows, one of the coming Tuesdays might be iSight-day.
  • If you can't get on over the website, I'd love to sell you an extra one I have. The box has been opened, but it's never been used. How about $115?
  • They have been rumored to be updated soon:

That would be my guess. EU regulations require it, and it's due for a refresh anyway.
  • Does the EU let anyone do anything, or do they regulate and sue over every little tiny aspect of every product?

At least in the US unless something is clearly illegal or dangerous, if the company wants to be stupid and make proprietary stuff no one wants, they are welcome to do so.

And how does Sony ever sell anything in Europe with all those laws? They are probably the most proprietary of all with their products.
  • iSights are banned in the EU because of environmental concerns. Those things contain a lot of nasty heavy metals.

And some people say the EU has a lot of regulations and such. Well, doesn't the US too have weird taxes to protect US industries?
  • Brett
Cisco bought them all for their conference system. ;)
  • My eyesight is fine and as far as I know it is in stock too....

Oh you mean Isight...Don't got one or want one.:)
  • I see the US is cracking down on the illegal and dangerous Vegemite threat: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20623973-2... - still available in the EU.
  • Robert, if you have a spare DV camera lying around, they work well with iChat and PhotoBooth and QuickTime Broadcaster too. Not quite as handy as the iSight or the built-in, but still useful.
  • if you'd like to borrow mine, i'm not using it!
