One place IE7 is better than Firefox

That site also looks great in Apple's Safari.

Why is this page, hosted on microsoft.com, a seemingly direct lift of Zen Garden without crediting the original source? I'm not saying they didn't get permission but it does seem very strange. The original Zen Garden FAQ is pretty explicit on this point:

"Can I use these designs for other things?
You may not use any of the graphics (image files: GIF, JPG, and PNG) on the Zen Garden elsewhere without the original designer's written permission. There are no exceptions to this."

Yup. Looks fine in Safari.

I looked at this page with IE6 and it looks awful. I can't get the text to not overlap. So on my Win2000 system, I'll have to say Firefox is still better.

It doesn't behave at all in my IE 6.0, unreadable. It displays correctly (but extremely slowwwww to respond) in Opera, Flock and Firefox 1.0 (all XP). Is there something wrong with my IE 6.0? Does it work for others in IE 6?

OMG, that renders perfectly but hurts my eyes.

Technically, that's a position: fixed text layout and doesn't have to do with display: inline.

Looks fine (well, like shiny ass but renders correctly) in Firefox 1.5.0.7 but IE6 botches it up completely.

FYI, the CSS Zen Garden has been around for years.

Does it mean IE7 will mess up good sites run well on IE6?

This is a theme for the Zen Garden the IE7 team produced to test/show off the CSS improvements in IE7. I believe it was featured on one of Scoble's videos. I think they gained permission from Dave Shea to use this, so there's no real issue about the use of the site.

Why didn't they just submit it to the real Zen Garden????

Can you give any examples of a "place IE7 is better than Firefox" that doesn't have "microsoft.com" in its URL? ;) I'm just saying... O:)

Bruce, I don't doubt that you're correct and this is done with permission. However explicit acknowledgment of such a well nown source seems like a good idea, if only to avoid unnecessary negative reactions.

Little bit of disappointed with IE team.

Here is browser guy from SF. He has worked on tool to capture all possible browser type, version, screen size, etc for many years. Instead of messing around on your machine, his service allow you to capture the screen results from different browser versions and types within seconds.

I imagine his business has been quiet for the last 5 years. I am glad he is staying with his business all these years. He was our speaker.

IIRC, they couldn't submit it because they edited the HTML slightly.

From what I recall they didn't submit it as in IE6 it would have looked terible and wouldn;t pass the zen garden requirements for working/looking right in IE6 to make the 'full' gallery. It was quite a while ago though so I may be wrong...

i dont know on what basis you say its better on IE7 than on FF.I took quite some time to load on IE7..and the looks are qiute similar except for the difference in the font rendering.

Like others have said in their comments, the reference page looks crappy on "Old IE." The links do not work and the arangement of the items on the page is all screwed up.

Okay, Microsoft is trying to take a giant leap forward with IE7, but I for one will wait until the dust settles before I admit it to my computer. I elected to block the automatic downloading of IE7. I rarely use IE anyway and I don't want to have the hastle of dealing with the new one.

Scroll the page and you'll see one big difference. FF exhibits major tearing while scrolling. (I'm using FF 1.x.)

Another place IE7 is cooler: on a tablet PC. Firefox just sucks with the tablet.

Wow ... Page designed by Microsoft works better in their latest browser - but not others browser and even not in previous version of Microsoft own browser.

Nobody will buy Microsoft proposal to use CSS in such a way that no browser other that IE7 will show it. Well - almost nobody - as Microsoft can put all this "pretty" code to ASP.NET and push it to user via lazy ASP developers.

i think u work in microsoft that could be one reason y u like IE7 so much. but i think firefox is way much better

This site displays OK in Firefox 2 (but scrolling text is slow and blocky).

It displays OK in IE7, but scrolling text is slow to update - but better than Firefox 2.

It displays best by far in Opera 9.1 where the text scrolls smoothly and is very quick to update and the pop-up images display very well too. Opera wins by a million miles with this page - like using a 10 times faster processor, internet connection and graphics card all in one. Well done Opera!
