Jason Calacanis on the loose?

What would it take to land Jason Calacanis, GM of AOL? Valleywag called here today, I hear, and tried to find out if he’d be coming to PodTech.

Oh, that’d be fun, but come on, why would Jason want to play in someone else’s pond? If I were in his position I’d start something new.

If the rumors of Jason leaving AOL are true, AOL just got a lot more uninteresting.

UPDATE: Jason confirmed he is leaving AOL. Beet.TV reports that Egadget’s Peter Rojas is staying at AOL.

AOL hires an ad and tv man CEO…are the big ol’ companies getting it yet? I think actually, yes, they are.

Calacanis was the only reason anyone intelligent paid any attention to AOL, period. Incredible that they’d let him walk.

@6. “Incredible they’d *let* him walk”? *Let*? They can’t stop him – slavery was abolished some time ago!

    Engadget even.

I’m with Jim Turner on this one…I think Jason will do something new and different, but whatever it is will be inspired by his publishing background. The WIN model worked too well for him to abandon it.

The difference this time, according to Jason, is that previously he knew how to run a multi-million dollar company. Now, thanks to his “mentor” Jon Miller, he knows how to run a multi-billion dollar company.

I liked Jon Miller too, but AOL is a sinking ship.

The changes at Netscape angered many users, maybe some were stockholders.

Netscape should be where Firefox is today, AOL blew that one big-time.
