File server-based conversion service opens

by on November 20, 2006

Now THIS is a cool Web 2.0 app (hey, I beat TechCrunch!).

It’s called ZAMZAR and it converts file formats. Hundreds of them.

The only thing lame about it is that it only does 100MB files.

I need it to do up to 300 MBs. I’d pay for that.

Even better this was done by two brothers in the UK. Hey, maybe I can get them on camera next week?

  • From what I saw, it sends it to your email? I don't really want to have to receive 100 MB attachments, but maybe that's just me...

It was Digged two weeks ago - and became so popular it brought down their servers - but even so received 2500 Diggs

    An awesome free service!!

Have you noticed WMV is not in the list, neither as an input nor as an output format?

This strikes as odd, especially given the (awful) list of WMV-only products that Microsoft releases.

I saw it on TechCrunch 2 wks ago. Check here: http://www.techcrunch.com/tag/Zamzar/

I was quite excited about seeing these online conversion sites. I have been searching around for free shareware to do video conversion. I want to find something so easy to use even my boss can use it. Very little luck.
  • Wonderful tool! I'll link it - and you post - in my italian blog.
  • Really useful application. But there has to be a way to get the converted files other than through email.
  • Hey, I beat YOU! And by 13 days! (http://techbee.wordpress.com/2006/11/08/zamzar/) But it's all thanks to 3spots, an excellent resource.(http://3spots.blogspot.com/2006/11/zamzar-huge-range-of-file-format.html)
    I am flushed pink.
  • Why don't they credit the open source projects that enabled them to do these conversions?
