This week’s schedule

by on November 27, 2006

Today: off to see Cardiff for family day.
Tuesday: traveling to London in the afternoon, speaker dinner in evening.
Wednesday: speaking at Online Information 2006 in London. Girl Geek dinner in evening.
Thursday: hanging out at Online Information 2006. Meeting with Microsoft’s accessibility team, then getting a tour of BBC around 5 p.m. Evening open so far.
Friday: breakfast with Sam Sethi of UK TechCrunch, then meet the geeks in Hyde Park. Hugh Macleod suggested meeting by the Eros statue because it’s near the Piccadilly Circus tube station. We’ll walk around, visiting tourist spots and pubs. Hugh says we’ll be “pissed as newts.” Oh, boy, that should be good for a Flickr scandal. In the evening Sam is taking us to two parties (the Firefox one, and Internet People’s Party).
Saturday: we fly to Amsterdam where we’ll stay until December 5th, when we fly home.

Anyone want to meet up? The schedule is getting tight, leave a message here and we’ll fit you in.

  • Murph
Are you meeting at Hyde Park or Piccadilly Circus (the statue of Eros)?

There's some distance between the two...

If Hyde Park then you need to pick a location on the boundaries - its a big space (-:
  • Murph: hmmm, the way Hugh was talking Eros is near Hyde. Let me verify it with Hugh, and we'll post the exact location we should meet later in the week.
  • Saturday morning for breakfast: chat about Biotech Geek Blogging? :)
    Cheers, Attila.
  • I'm free Thursday evening, name a pub in London?

    Cheers

    Simon
  • Remco
Could show you around Amsterdam :-)
  • Let us know a meeting place. I am going to be there.
  • Wouter Schut
Watch out for the 'Zwarte Pieten' in the Netherlands ;)
  • hey Robert

being a Scot I'm terribly disappointed you are not going to visit Scotland. The one of the finest countries in the world. Anyway, have a nice time in Europe. I'll forgive you this time ;-)
  • Wonder what I'll wear on Friday, maybe I should bring my Windows Live Jacket! :)
  • Hi Robert.

Will you be busy in Amsterdam? A geeky pub crawl there sounds like a good option. I was thinking of getting some UMPC geeks together. No cameras allowed ;-)

    Regards
    Steve.
  • Hopefully be able to catch up with you at the conference on Weds. Friday also sounds tempting, especially the 'pissed as newts' part.
  • Looking forward to Friday :)

    Nige
  • Steve: I'm all for a geek tour of Amsterdam. Yeah, no Flickr photos should be the rule!
  • I'd like to show you a cluster web page publish software. It is very easy for normal person to set up hierarchical knowledge base, just like MSDN or IBM's online reference(tree structured navigation).
It is the second phase development of Tablane TClipper(www.tablane.com).
The beauty of the data structure in TClipper is that it roots from OPML file, to collection in RSS format and ends each page in HTML format. Alos, Tags as thread sews the pages together which belong to different branches.
We may think this is next level of Office tool. Not just create single Word document or PDF file, you can create grouped web pages etc.
Don't know if you are interested.

  • Thanks. Keen to meet late wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. e-mail or phone Philip on 07977-471458. Geoff Jones is coming to the dinner.

Thanks! That was really awesome. We’re coming back to London next Tuesday-Saturday. Can you come and meet us and give us a demo? I’ll have my camera.

    Hi Robert

We met in London with Geoff Jones of Cambridge and a hundred other people so I am sure you remember me!!

You are always writing about companies and high tech companies.

We are running a survey to find out more about the changes in equity ownership as companies develop from the founding team and equity split to bringing in cash, managers and people; see below.

Responses so far say we are unique.

Take a look at http://www.equityfingerprint.com/ We are working on a study to see if the difference in the equity structures shows different growth patterns.

There is not much data around but people need to know that site such as YouTube.com has sophisticated investors from the early days; but how much did the founders keep? What is the norm? In the UK we can get data from public sources but it is harder in the UK.

You can see a great guide at www.redy.biz

Keep well and I hope you liked that Cambridge scarf I sent to you.

The names at the top are the MBA students running the EF Survey.

  • Robert - love to meet up post your BBC meeting on Thursday for a coffee/chat if you have time? Assume you'll be in Shepherds Bush area?
  • Hi Robert - I know you're running out of slots, but if you'd like to see what we're doing over at Zopa.com drop me a line - we're the worlds first lending and borrowing exchange. Maybe Friday morning?

With impeccable timing we're having some network problems right now - but we had a piece on the BBC prime time news last week that explains what we do - you can see it on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4vA6yDkr0A

I'll try to make the Friday pub crawl regardless!

    Cheers

    Dave
  • Doh - forgot to say that we're just off Oxford Circus.
  • We're meeting at Eros at Piccadilly Circus at 1pm. Hyde Park was an earlier idea, which we bagged eventually.

They're not really near each other. Eros is nice and central. It's a traditional London meet-up spot.

Congrats on the Amazon/Naked Conversations ping, Robert & shel.
  • Cool hope everyone can make it! :)
  • So venue for meet-up has changed ? Now Eros ?
  • Murph: yeah, we're meeting at the Eros statue.

Attilachordash: I can't meet on Saturday, turns out. We gotta be at Heathrow too early.

Simon: regarding Thursday evening, we'll be at Online conference (Olympia). Do you have a pub near there?

Remco and Steve: hmmm, we'll plan out Amsterdam shortly.

    Yakov: what day? What time?

Wouter: what should we watch out for?

Johnny: I'd love to come to Scotland.

Darren: oh, please do! I should have brought mine.

Ian: definitely drop by and see us at the conference. Hopefully we'll be online there, since it's an Online conference.

Mike: I'm definitely interested. Can you come and see us sometime this week?

    Philip: I'll email you.

Steve: looks like BBC tour is off, so we can definitely meet up on Thursday evening. We'll be in Olympia, can you come and meet us there?

Dave: I'd love to see Zopa. Friday morning is already busy. How about Thursday sometime? Can you come over to the conference and meet in the lobby or something like that?

    Monkeyleader: yes, it's now Eros.
  • We will come to the conference on Thursday to meet you. If you can allocate a slot, just drop me an email: yji [at] tablane.com
  • Hey Robert, definitely up to a meet with you and other people in Amsterdam. Is there anything planned yet?
  • Robert - sounds good. Looks like you're free early / mid afternoon - when would be good? If you'd like some lunch let me know - there's a great pub 15 minutes walk away (The Havelock Tavern).

    Cheers

    Dave
  • 'Beer in the evening' suggests the Cumberland Arms in Kensington.

    Suggest at time?
  • Hello,

I will make the Friday pub crawl. Should be good even for a teetotaler such as myself. Actually, my sobriety will give me an excellent opportunity to document your drunken antics! You have been warned....
  • Hi Rob, would love to try and get the opportunity to meet you all on friday afternoon, somewhere... As I work in the area I thought I'd make a few suggestions for decent pubs in soho, just north of eros, heading behind the big visual ads in piccadilly circus. There's the coffee house pub on the corner of Beak Street and marshall street? There's endurance pub on berwick street which has great food at lunchtime? Across the road from endurance, is the blue posts on the corner of berwick and broadwick street... Finally there's always the sun and thirteen cantons pub opposite microsoft offices on great pulteney street?
  • ..might make eros but I'm scheduled to go to the firefox party.. pissed as newts har har..
  • Robert.

I guess you're deep in the heart of Friday afternoon drinking. Good luck!
I have to apologise, Amsterdam isn't going to work for me. Blame Vodafone because gcal sync doesn't work on this network and I didn't know my daughter has TWO events this weekend.

I have a suggestion though. Hire bikes (when in Amsterdam...) and do a photo-blog bike tour. There's loads to photograph and plenty of Wifi around.
This is something I'm planning to do for a week next year. The Carrypad blogging bike tour. Just me, a bike, a 3G-capable UMPC and a solar panel!

So apologies again. Stay out of the wrong type of coffee shops!

    Steve.
