But Thomas Hawk bought a Mac.

Hmmm, I bought two so far this year. And my wife’s makes three. I still use my Windows machine more, though. Mostly cause of Outlook. Unlearning hundreds of thousands of emails answered (and tons of calendar items stored) is proving to be very tough. Since leaving SFO I’ve answered more than 600 emails. Whew.

What’s worse, is I received 48 new ones between Newport, Wales, and London.

Sigh.

    Robert, we’ve changed 5 mails till day: 3 from me, 2 from you. I now would like to swear not sending you any more mail, just comment if it is needed. Is it good enough? If somebody becomes a social hub because of his own decision and motivations, than it is not worth to blame the situation. Cheers, Attila.

    Yes, yours is an interesting totally open-source communication approach. What about the “boredom factor”? Sometimes the details of a correspondence are just not interesting enough to go to public. On the other side, it is the most efficient form of blogging if you eliminate all your mails into your posts and comments. If you consider blogging as an industry just for dollars.

    Mmmh: can’t you put all those mails into a personal file (.pst) and then read them with Entourage? I’m not the Microsoft geek I used to be, but this sounds feasible to me.

    Bertil: Entourage requires learning. If I’m going to learn something new it’ll be Gmail, cause that’s getting new features at a much more rapid pace than Microsoft’s Mac products are.

    just use Apple mail and download plug ins so it’ll fetch your Hotmail/Gmail/whatever…

    Hi Robert, hope you are enjoying your trip! I too have succumbed to 2 macs this year, a MBP and a MacPro (to join the iMac in the kitchen and the PowerMac) :-) A 30″ screen also appeared at the same time… how did that happen!?!?
    Is there anything you are using on the Macs which is a revelation which you have discovered this year? Mine has to be Google – cal, mail and reader. Looking forward to http://www.spanningsync.com where you can sync iCal and Gcal.

    I took the plunge to and am in the same situation. I only use my PC for Outlook and streaming media to my Xbox 360. Otherwise I am on my iMac G5 or my wife’s new MacBook for everything else. It is just so much better to be using the Mac!!

    I took the plunge to and am in the same situation. I only use my PC for Outlook and streaming media to my Xbox 360. Otherwise I am on my iMac G5 or my wife’s new MacBook for everything else. It is just so much better to be using the Mac!!

    Left the Mac world and went back to PCs. I tried again earlier this year with a new MacBook and left again after about two months. I really couldn’t abide with the Apple mentality again. Apple’s install still bothers me what with their insistance I supply them with my name and address and such. None of their business. Even MS doesn’t force that evil on people.
    I sold the MacBook of cragslist for $150 less than I paid for it and went and bought an HP Pavilion. The only thing that bothers me about this computer is the ATI graphics card has no drivers for Linux (yet).
    I find myself less productive on a Mac. I don’t like the hive mentality of most Mac users either.
    Just my .02. Enjoy your Macs.

    I recently went 100% Mac when I got my new Intel iMac and installed WinXP on Parallels. I use the Windows “window” inside of OS X only for Outlook. Since all of my email is Exchange-server based, the migration was seemless (no PST export/import/moving required). Give it a try, Scoble.
