I’ve been Stumbling through the Web

I interviewed the StumbleUpon team today. I hadn’t used it before today (sorry, I can’t try every cool thing that comes through my Link Blog).

But it rocks. It brings you cool Web sites that other people have rated. The service is very hot (about 1.5 million users already). Whew.

  • I like what they've done.

    It has some rough edges, but it is fairly low entry. buzz.stumbleupon.com always shows some cool stuff.

    Some things I'd love fixing:
    - if you cut and paste from a wordpress.com blog post to your stumble page you'll get escaped characters for all of the "' etc
    - handle images wider than 715px. So frustrating.

    I think I've gotten somewhere around 50,000+ page views on my blog from stumbleupon.
  • I've been stumbling for a few weeks and it's crazily addictive and fascinating. Been sent to some awesome sites. It's a great way to break out of the routine blogroll of info.

    I like the way that it crosses some of the aspects of delicious with social networking. Stumbleupon need to make tagging stumbles and blog posts easier though. I'd love to just move all bookmarking to stumbleupon but delicious is just functionally better at the moment.

    Also I find it quite interesting and a little odd that I don't rate everything I save to delicious with stumbleupon, even though I know people can view my delicious saves. Some weird physcological aspect that maybe comes out of the fact that others will be viewing my stumbles and commenting on them? Hmmm.

    It's great to see Stumble getting some recognition. IT is a beautiful tool and its social networking is so much stronger than the MyFace's out there.

    I was checking this out a few months ago. I get a lot of traffic from it. In fact its my 5th biggest referrer this month. Just below Engadget. I must be doing something right for a change!

  • That was the first thing to come off my laptop (closely followed by World of Warcraft) when I started working from home. I've wasted far too many hours hopping between websites on StumbleUpon! My already unmanageable bookmarks quadrupled in about 5 days.

    Great tool though!

    StumbleUpon is great! It is a great way to discover new sites. I use it all the time to find interesting sites that are usually very on topic with what I am interested in. A lot more fun than MySpace.

    Steve, I don't bother trying to manage any but my most basic bookmarks in the browser - I use Backflip and am crowding the 2000 mark, all nicely organized. :)
  • I've been featuring weekly stumbles of interesting sites on my blog. I'd have never found these great sites had it not been for StumbleUpon (in most cases) :)

  • Let's hope StumbleUpon isn't bought by My$pace, G00gle, or Mikro$oft. I like the randomness and the fact I can say what I want.
