I love my satellite radio

Sirius, or XM Rob? I wrote a recent post on the Stiletto 100, my new favourite toy. I love it...!

I too love my satellite radio, although I have XM (I'm guessing you have SIRIUS because they're the ones with Adam Curry).

Though I'm a total geek (or perhaps because I'm a total geek), gangsta rap is one of my guilty pleasures. And satellite radio is one of the best ways to listen to uncensored rap music. That's why I like it.

I use Sirius, yeah. I like gangsta rap too. Hmmm.

Oh seriously! How did we manage road trips before sattelite radio?!! Rap is one of my guilty pleasures as well!!!

I love mine too. I have Sirius. I do tire of the lame commercials about gotvmail and get rich quick schemes though. My impression before I got the system was that it was commercial free but many of the new channels have these annoying ads.

Paul: I totally agree with you. It's enough to make me want to hook my Zune up to my car. Too bad it can't sure podcasts with my car. :-)

I *adore* XM. Good lineup, strong signals, no Podshow.

And, it drives me to buy music on iTunes, if I hadn't already played it rights-cleared on my pre-hiatus show. So yeah.

And Gizmodo might say everyone they know hates it, but that might be the problem with our inner circles. Outside, a whole lotta people *love* it, XM or Sirius. It's even faster than the iPod and one-click access to every music out there.

It's nice to be surprised, otherwise, we're becoming our own personal little Clear Channels, playing our same stuff over and over and over again on rotation. xD

You know what is infectious about you Robert .... your capacity to absorb multiple inputs and still keep talking about each thing as a new, special, thing. You tell it like it is, and you have a clear opinion. You have to be the classic lateral thinker. I don't always agree with you, yet I have never deleted your feed ... the ultimate compliment.

Brian: thanks! I wondered where they went to. That's one problem with radio. If they keep moving things around it's hard to keep track of where they are without printing out a new guide.

Saw that Gizmodo thing and left it alone ... if nobody they know likes satellite radio, they don't know the right people.

I'm a Sirius man (my new car has an XM-only OEM radio, sadly, so I'll be adding in a Sirius box) and I like the exploration of music they strive for. Underground Garage, man. But whether it's the better choice of music, not having to listen to commercials, the ability to listen to CNN in your car when news is breaking, never having to search for the local ESPN Radio or complete coverage coast to coast, satellite radio is a compelling product.

I worked for the "Big Dog" about a year ago or so and it was really cool... Sat Rad is the next "big thing".... and way more versatile than "Regular Radio"

@Brian - I guess I have to get a new channel guide, 104 is/was Raw Dog (another 'guilty pleasure' - uncensored comedy!)

I'd love it if XM and Sirius would merge...and build in a SD card slot to a car player...

Hook up a Zune? When are you going to stop eating your former boss' dog food and actually use the good stuff? Seriously, I thought Microsoft might actually have understood what Apple was doing right with the iPod and do better than the typical crappy MS version 1 rip-off. But no.

The Zune has fake cool with "Welcome to the Social". What social? I know three people who bought a Zune and two of them returned theirs. I've not seen a single Zune on campus...of course, they might just be too embarrassed by the brown to own up to it.

The out of box experience was pretty darn good and the brown isn't THAT bad looking. But it can't touch my black Nano 2. But then the plug it in, install the software, get registered, and buy points experiences all drag it down to pure hell.

I was also surprised by the "Everyone hates satellite radio" post. Now I have to admit I wouldn't have it, or my subscription, if the dealer hadn't thrown it in as an incentive (that didn't really work this time around). But now I'm hooked and it is making me fill up my hard drive even faster. I've had XM for 6 months and my CD purchases have been WAY WAY up.

davidwb: I have several iPods too. I just used Zune to piss you off. :-)

Great comeback - but seriously what's up with the Zune? I'm no MS fanboy but I definitely appreciate the talent pool the company has and I expected a lot more.

I expected more from the software. I didn't expect it to crash twice during the initial setup and I didn't expect syncing to be so temperamental. Okay, so MS has a harder row to hoe making a device work with the myriad of PCs in the world but if my iPods all synced first time every time with this brand new Core Duo XP then shouldn't I expect the same from Microsoft?

And come-on, these points are pointless. Let me spend real money. I've heard some claim the idea of pre-buying points is for the day when wireless downloads come. But why obscure the prices with points that aren't a penny to point match? Why not simply let us register a credit card?

My interest in the Zune was merely curiosity but I expected so much more and got so much less. This boy has seen lots of MS version 1 products and this was, sadly, another one. When will the company start swinging for the fence on the first attempt? Until then, I'll be unconvinced that Microsoft's culture has really changed.

Love my Sat Rad but I agree, the commercials aren't necessary. Hey, we pay for this, how's come they run these since they advertised no commercials.

One other thing, when are they going to come out with a boombox that I can use in the rooms INSIDE my home. I'm stuck listening to FM in the rooms that don't have a window looking South where I can stick the antenna. Can't they make a boombox with a built in antenna like the FM?

Willie
