First Google video advertiser?

Beet.tv, I’ve learned, thanks to a phone call from Andy Plesser, who runs that tech-centric video blog, might be Google’s first video advertiser. They are splitting the $15 CPM (revenue per thousand downloads) 50/50. The ad is at the end of his latest videos.

Not everyone on Google Video will get advertising, by the way. They are hand picking video blogs to get advertising.

Congrats to Andy on being picked — it’ll be interesting to see how Google evolves its video advertising. Certainly this is a big deal for Google since they own both Google Video and YouTube.

In other Google news, the Wall Street Journal got bearish on Google and that got Internet Stock site “Seeking Alpha” to write about it.

Can you tell I’m doing my link/gesture blog? Heheh. I haven’t linked to the feed lately.

Hey, Google Reader crew, why don’t you link to my feed on the link blog page?

Thanks Robert — much obliged. The ads are beginning to appear a few at at time. Check out this clip from last night on Stumbleupon and commentary about Time Magazine and Chad Hurley. The clip with Chad has the post-roll ad inserted — here’s the post — you can see the ad for Allstate after the Hurley segment:

I’m a little confused. It was YouTube, and now there’s MetaCafe. Is Beet.tv something of the same breed?

    Hey Scoble,

We provide an auto-discovery link for the link blog feed. We thought that between Safari, IE 7 and Firefox the browser’s feed icon/link was the way to go.

Interesting that the ad is at the end and not the start, any thoughts on why?

Is there a reason why Google is picking only certain videos to add advertising? Any thoughts on why it is not open to all content providers?

[...] Meanwhile, Scoble says that Beet.tv is running post-roll ads (the kind that appear at the end of a clip) on their video blogs, as part of a Google Video advertising program. Should be the start of AdSense Video, which I’m sure a lot of vloggers have been eagerly anticipating. [...]

I ran across this link when searching more RECENT info on the NEW GoogleVideo Ad Revenue Sharing Program that I ALSO am involved in. It seemed like a “scam” @ first but it seems legit. Nice to find someone else out here. If you hear anything new, please let me know. I will do the same. My contact seems very reliable & sincere.

[...] Video Adverts For Publishers (closed beta pilot): Google has started a closed pilot for select video publishers. The service will allow video publishers and video bloggers to add in-stream adverts to their content. I’m pretty sure this is a continuation of a trial Google started back in December 2006. [...]
