What’s Ed Bott missing on his CES schedule?
Ed Bott is asking what he’s missing on his CES schedule.
Oh, let’s see.
How about an appearance on the ScobleShow? I still have some slots left open. By the way, we’re gonna be doing the “Retrevo Gang” at 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. every day in the Seagate booth.
I’ll have something fun for you up at the PodTech/Seagate BlogHaus — news will be announced there on Sunday afternoon. Make sure you get your name on my invite list (leave your email on the comments or send me an email). It’ll be going 24 hours a day during CES and I’ll be there a lot.
Ajay Juneja is bringing his ultra cool car. Oh, if you need a ride around Vegas, let me know that too. I have some, um, connections.
Wanna see Stevie Wonder? I know someone at Monster who has tickets.
Or, we could go over and beat up DirecTV and ask them why they don’t have more HD channels? ;-)
So, anyway, here’s who I have on my “CES Dream Team” list:
Leo Laporte. Hell, he lives two blocks from my son (seriously — Leo’s son has Patrick’s math book from last year). To me Leo IS CES.
Jason Calacanis. I wonder, what would happen if Jason and Seagate’s CEO Bill Watkins got on the same microphone? Hmmm. But Jason started Engadget, knows CES better than anyone (he was EVERYWHERE with Peter Rojas last year) and is a gadget freak to boot.
Mark Cuban. He’s Mr. HD to me. I’d love to get his thoughts on what he saw on the show floor.
Dave Winer. He needs a new Surround Sound system and would be fun to see the show through his eyes.
Doc Searls. We had a blast hanging out last year. Doc always seemed to get into the keynotes. That takes skills and connections and often both.
Gina Trapani. I bet she’d have some good “how to survive CES” productivity tips. Mine? Wear comfortable shoes and carry your own bottled water. It’ll be a lifesaver for those times when you’ve stacked up five meetings back to back.
Chris Pirillo. Cause he buys every gadget I do, except a few weeks earlier.
Ryan Block. He writes for Engadget. What else do I need to say?
Peter Rojas. Ryan’s boss. What else do I need to say?
Kevin Rose. Just to see if I could get something on Digg. Just kidding Kevin! But not really. ;-)
Tom Warren, aka “Creamhackered” over on Neowin. That guy knows more about Windows than anyone other than maybe Raymond Chen.
Om Malik. I like Om and his take on gadgets.
Staci Kramer. Paid content. We can talk about PodTech and how it’ll get paid for content. Bad pun.
Vic Gundotra. The guy is the biggest gadget whore I’ve ever met. I can’t wait to see his blog start back up again.
Michael Gartenberg. He too was all over CES last year. In fact, I’ll bet that he has more gadgets that’ll be announced at CES than anyone else. He just doesn’t talk about them.
Walt Mossberg. He’s the king. Still is.
The Heiny family. They were all there last year and they knew where to go for the hot stuff.
OK, I’m starting to get dreamy.
Who would you want to walk around CES with?
Back to the news…
UPDATE: It’s Brandon LeBlanc’s first time to CES. We’ll do a “CES survival guide” for Brandon. I have a love/hate relationship with CES. It’s big. All the important vendors in the gadget space are there. But, that also makes it suck. I remember getting off the airplane at 12:15 a.m. to get into a two-hour-long taxi line. Not fun. I’ve got some ways around the taxi lines this year, though.
UPDATE 2: Staci Kramer is going (she’s awesome) and is looking for a room at the Venetian. If you have one, Staci is a worthy person to give it to.

I think I would try to get Leo, Om, and Chris to cruz the floor with me. Not sure why but you know it wouldn’t be dull.

[...] Ed Bott just posted his CES schedule. Wow. He’s got a pretty impressive schedule. Heck, he’s even been invited by Robert Scoble for a appearance on the ScobleShow. That would be a awesome video to watch. Ed says he has had over 598 invites to meetings, press conferences and other events related to CES and companies showing off their stuff there. That is just crazy. Unfortunately I was turned down by CEA (the folks who run and organize CES) to attend CES as Press. Apparently I didn’t have enough qualifacations. [...]

ET: it’s never dull with any one of those three. Me? I think I’d want to walk around with either Walt Mossberg or Peter Rojas. Those guys are royalty at CES.
Well, OK, if I really were smoking dope instead of doing cold medicine I’d want to hang out with Bill Gates. He don’t wait in no taxi lines, that’s for sure!
December 22nd, 2006 at 12:29 am
This might sound really lame but I’d like to walk around with Ed Bott or Scoble. These guys have done CES numerous times. Seeing as this is my first time - I’m not yet ready to “hang with the great geeks” of CES just yet. I’d like to hang with a few folks like Scoble who could introduce me to some really cool people.
But Bill Gates would be nice ;-)
Now if I could go all out - I’d want to hang with Ray Ozzie.

Hey Scoble I’d love to take 2 of those tickets off your hands and any invites to parties are welcome.
As for people I want to meet … basically just you and Dave Winer. I want to personally shake his hand and thank him for inventing RSS.
December 22nd, 2006 at 1:34 am
So not worthy, Robert, but thanks on all counts. (That’s a CES-rate room at the Venetian, btw.) Let’s find some time this trip — we can talk paid content all you want — and please add me to your BlogHaus list.
BTW, Stevie Wonder was wondrous last year, wasn’t he?
December 22nd, 2006 at 1:37 am
Yeah, he was. Can you email me at robert@podtech.net to get you added to the BlogHaus?
December 22nd, 2006 at 3:07 am
I had a great time last year at the Stevie Wonder concert sitting next to Ajay, but this year it’s Al Jarreau and George Benson.
I got a letter from Monster Cable, no tickets yet…
December 22nd, 2006 at 5:01 am
I’m looking for a place to stay most likely.

[...] This year, the Consumer Electronics Show and Macworld are going head-to-head. Both are the week of Jan. 9 and those who cover our industry are choosing which to attend. Over at PaidContent, Staci writes she’ll be in Vegas at CES. She’s part of Robert Scoble’s “Dream Team” list of interviewees. Meantime, Microsoft is hosting a blogger’s lounge at Macworld. (Last item.) [...]

Last year Albert Lai of Bubbleshare produced a great wiki for first timers at CES, but I think it is offline now. Lots of tips for the monster of monster show, like never, ever take a taxi unless you like waiting for 30 minutes at a hotel
December 22nd, 2006 at 7:33 am
Tom Warren (aka “Creamhackered”) “exclusive” Microsoft knowledge often is information covered by NDA which he (or somebody else) violate regularly ( http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/03/07/neowin_net_downed_by_ms/ ).

[...] What happens when you get thousands of geeks together in Vegas? The Consumer Electronics Show, of course, and it is just around the corner. Everyone is making a mad dash to setup meetings with vendors and RSVP for what are bound to be some very cool events. Like Brandon this will be my first time to attend the show. To be honest this isn’t one I even payed attention to last year, yeah I suck, but I am really glad I signed up and am making the time to attend this year. The contacts alone at something like this are well worth the time to attend. I was able to get in as press to the event this year, SUCKERS, so I will be taking lots of incriminating photos to use for blackmail throughout the year. You never know when you might need something. :D Following Ed’s lead here are some of the thing I am going to try and hit, but would love to hear from you what I am missing, haven’t thought of, or didn’t know about. How come I’m not on your list? I’ve also written for Engadget, though I’ll be covering the event for Netgear’s blog experiment.

I’m just thrilled that after eight consecutive years of having to work 12-16 hour days at CES, I get to go in a bit more of a relaxed mode.
I think the most interesting walk-companion would be Bill Gates, who tends to go through just prior to the show opening. I got hit by Paul Allen’s entourage a couple of years ago, and theres just a certain energy that their groups have as they go.
Another interesting one would be FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, who did the walk last year with some of his staff. I had a great chat with him about place-shifting!

Hey Robert, you were probably typing too fast, but my last name is spelled J-U-N-E-J-A
:)

Ajay: sorry, fixed.
December 22nd, 2006 at 11:15 am
Oh, one other thing Robert - Stevie Wonder was for last year’s Monster party, it’s Al Jarreau this year.
December 22nd, 2006 at 11:56 am
Unfortunately, I just read that Toshiba won’t be showing off any SED displays this year as I guess there are still technological and political issues slowing release of their highly anticipated flat screen technology.
December 22nd, 2006 at 1:47 pm
[...] Anyhow, I’m getting ready for CES myself - way too many invites, way too little time. Robert Scoble has a fun post on his ideal floor-walking-mates for the show (I put Bill Gates up on my personal list). I’ll get some thoughts up on the show in the week leading up to it. I just can’t wait to not having to get up at 3am (or earlier) or setting up a booth or a suite this year. Now there’s nothing about CES that’s relaxing, but this is most certainly a refreshing year for me. [...]

[...] Today, for the first time, I stumbled on Ed Bott’s site, Windows Expertise. At first I thought Ed was just one of those authors who wrote a book so they needed to start a blog to promote it and to satiate the book’s fans, but he actually has a great blog, good enough to make it on to my RSS list at least. As an added bonus he is a Federated Media author though I did not realize that until later on when I saw a link to his site on this blogs FM links (look to the right -> ). I found the post through Techmeme after Scoble linked to him. [...]

Ed Bott rocks!

Hey Robert - Just wanted to let you know that Adam and I will be covering CES from the show floor this year as well. Now I’m not saying we belong on your Dream Team :), but I just wanted to pop in and say hi.
