Was he serious about that affirmative action stuff? How very 60s of him… Robert, would hire a person of color to meet a quota, if they werent qualified for the job?

My hope is that people get so sick of political hacks like Edwards this early that all of them flame out and we get to the better candidates eventually.

And why didnt Edwards run again in the Senate in North Carolina?

Ann, of course he was serious. He’s a Democrat. They are incapable of any original ideas and can’t move past the 30′s with Welfare and the 60′s with Civil Rights. (which ironically, was opposed by the majority of Democrats in congress)

So of the top 5 issues on Edwards reason for running and his plaform, none of them seem to address the war on terror? Does Edwards think that war is over? Scoble, can you ask Edwards (who, if memory serves, didn’t serve in the military, which by John Kerry’s standards, disqualifies him for the office of CiC) what his plans are for fighting terrorism?

How does he play to pay for “guaranteeing healthcare for everyone?” because, like they say, there’s no such thing as s free lunch. And to quote P.J O’Rourke, “If you think healthcare is expensive now, wait until you see how much it costs when it’s free!”

Scoble, can you get details on Edwards utopian healthcare plan and how he plans to ask Americans to pay for it?

“2006-12-28) — With just 23 months before the next presidential election, former Sen. John Edwards, D-NC, announced today that he would seek the Democrat nomination for president in 2008, 2012 and 2016, but refused to comment on his plans for 2020.

“Americans are looking for a candidate with experience running for president,” said an unnamed campaign spokesman. “In 2018, when John Edwards is 65, he’ll have spent 16 years seeking the office and have four campaigns under his belt. We think that will position him well for victory in 2020.”

While the candidate sought to deflect questions about his longterm plans, the anonymous source said Mr. Edwards would file papers with the Federal Election Commission next week forming a 2020 presidential exploratory committee.

The Edwards ‘08-12-16 campaign timed today’s announcement to coincide with this week’s death of former President Gerald Ford, “another great, and handsome, man who was never elected to the White House.”

In launching his campaign in front of a federally-funded trailer of a hurricane Katrina victim in New Orleans, Mr. Edwards recalled his 2004 stump speech in which he frequently said there are “two Americas.”

“Since 2004, I have learned a lot,” said Mr. Edwards. “I think history and geography have proved me right. If you look at the map, there are in fact two Americas — North America and South America.”

The former vice presidential candidate quoted the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, saying America must overcome racial and socioeconomic prejudices to unite as “one nation, underprivileged, indivisible, with subsidy and justice for all.”

He was more careful in stating the promise of this research for providing new therapies, and he did add that funding for medical research was important in the context of global competition. But, “We have got to be on the cutting edge of everything,” while reflecting his exuberance, doesn’t provide specifics. I hope that in the near future he can show that he has a deeper understanding of the kind of commitment that’s needed.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Robert in my home state at the John Edwards event. I’m here for the holidays. His video will look better than mine, but I posted a quick clip of the blogger meetup in Iowa.

I think Edwards is great but I just don’t know what has changed since 2004 except that he is two years older. The more I think about the Dems in 2008, the more I think the nomination is Al Gore’s to lose: he was robbed in 2000, has been consistently right on Iraq (unlike Hillary), and will not have a problem with either cash or name recognition… I wrote a story on this at http://www.minor-ripper.blogspot.com

And dont start that, ‘the election was rigged’ BS with us Washington State people – we saw it first hand with a Leftie Legislation and Judicial branch that thinks winning ONE out THREE recounts means youre a winner.
