Wow, a 15-year-old did a huge analysis of my blog. Some of the things he’s found:
Since moving to WordPress I’ve typed 2,103,816 characters.
Average of four characters a word.
4706 characters a day.
464,078 words total.
192 words a post.
Compare that to Shakespeare who only wrote 884,647 words.
2405 posts.
I’ve linked to 4,992 pages. 4321 of them unique. Spread out across 1858 domains.
Two links a post, 86% of the links being unique.

The value of this information is that this young man is showing us that the young are not only very smart, but are thinking like adults. I feel better knowing its not all playstation games, myspace posts and BF4E cell phone numbers rumbling through their heads.I have three girls who are early teens, I think I may have them take a gander at this young mans posts, try to stir their academic juices! RE: Your word count and Shakespeare’s count. The obvious jab is about quantity v. quality. But honestly that’s not fair. The difference is in the editing, the purpose/goal and the audience. The difference is between words that are written for today (short term time sensitive value) and the words that are written to last a long time. Apples and oranges.

Do we have the evidence to know how many words Shakespeare wrote? Did he do rough drafts? Did he write letters? But you certainly beat the bard on number of links.

Shakespeare has invented over 1700 of English language words including torture, rant, compromise, noiseless, advertising, critic, pedant.

I agree with Alfred. Shakespeare’s 850 000 words thet we know nowadays are not the written ones, but the words that are still available after ~500 years.

yeah, that doesn’t sit well. What are you saying? That you choose quantity over quality? That in a few hundred years time people are going to be learning these blog posts in school and performing them badly on stage? (Bwahahaha!)
And with all due respect, what meaningless statistics. How about top word frequency? Most egrarious spelling and grammar mistakes? (Personally, I hate the ‘But, …’ start of a sentence which you do frequently, very ugly) Least used letter and/or word? If you are going to statistical analysis you might as well get some fun facts.

Michiel - a 15 year old wrote a program. tested it. rewrote it. It’s most likely a work in progress. I’m sure Yuvi will get around to posting the other bits and pieces.

Man I can’t see for all the high horses in here! They’re just some neat facts and it’s a certainly an achievement for a 15-year old to produce them. I can see a long future with Her Majesty’s National Statistics (http://www.statistics.gov.uk/) for Nuvi :p

BTW, that one wasn’t big at all! The one I’m goanna post in a few hours time is the big one. It took me some 4 hours to write, and includes 22 charts, 3 tables and the prediction that if you hadn’t joined podtech, they would’ve gotten only 17 links now:D
