My first videos from CES

Here’s the video of our lunch with Bill Gates:

Here’s Seagate’s new hard drives, as announced in the BlogHaus. Some great stuff is that the new drives have ability to back themselves up online. Nice new form factors too.

good stuff on the gates video. Still need to improve the sound. Why did it cut off at the end so abruptly?

The sound was from a directional mike, and if you sink up the recorder from the table with the video it will improve…however, speed is better here. I just finished watching, and it was great to watch the raw video as it was.
Robert, your questions brought energetic responses from Mr. Gates. You rock!
When you are ready for another camera, I am there.

    Best Gates interview I’ve seen.

This is the most relaxed I’ve ever seen Gates, who to me often comes off as trying to avoid risking a misstep. I think his new “soon to be retired” mode suits him well… no longer has to pretend to be on top of every product roll-out schedule, can focus on really big “philosophical” outlooks etc.

Same reaction to the short CNet interview where he came across more as an end user than company Chairman.

He did seem to get a bit testy at your Global Warming question, without reason as far as I know. I think his answer was correct, which is that the computer industry has done TONS to eliminate energy waste. the problem is that so much of what has been done isn’t being used. Why do so many hi-tech workers continue to have to drive to work every day. he’s right that the energy waste from other sources reduced computer use to near nil. Don’t expect politicians to be bothered with factual comparisons though. They are in some sort of feeding frenzy at the moment and nobody has figured out who the real casualties will be if and when they decided to legislate against the problem. Hopefully “less computing” isn’t anywhere on their list.

Also, nice that I can finally play your videos with one click on a Linux machine. (I’m downloading the On10 video in the background which will need some diddling no doubt to play.)

Great interview! Reminded me of the John Edwards video where they come across more as the friendly neighbor across the street than as the world’s richest person or a presidential nominee.

Definitely has restored my faith in social media in general.

Keep up the great work, Robert!

Seagate is doing AWESOME stuff. Those are great-looking hard drives. If the software is solid, those will be killer.

Wow, what an insightful interview. I love how quickly you got it up – thanks Robert!. It was kinda funny when Gates pwned you though. If you were a techie, you’d prefer precision over vague generalizations too.

Robert, hearing your voice is a lot different than I had “heard” it in my mind when I read your blog. It’s always interesting to put voices in the real world to those online. Not a criticism at all – just different. Congratulations on getting the access. Make sure you get Steve Jobs this week too! :-)

Robert, are you ever going to mention the Hitachi terabyte drives alongside your sponsors version? I mean, my interest in big drives is limited – but if I have to hear about them endlessly I’d like to hear about all of them.

Fantastic interview but pity about the lighting. You need a fancy light source to go with the fancy mic. Great from Cambridge, UK

    Relaxed Bill Gates?

Watch his hectic moves when the guy asks about Spam (which Gates once said would be long gone by now). And also towards the end. Eh eh…

Great job Robert, and everyone else around the table. Really enjoyed the Gates video. I wonder when Ray Ozzie will do one of these things?

I understand why they use the term “solution” to refer to hard drives and the goodies they bundle with it, but it still makes me cringe.

    Robert,

Thanks for the Bill Gates video.
I love how the audio keeps in sync with the video, even though the audio quality could be better.

Would you please remind your cameraman that it’s a directional microphone, and not to pan around so much while the person being interviewed is speaking.

May I recommend the investment in a wireless omnidirectional microphone (provided that your $4k has an audio in jack)?
