CES’s coolest toy: a dragonfly
I saw the flying dragonfly over in the Sands today. $50. The company that builds these, WowWee, has some awesome stuff.

$50 for that vs. $500 for an iPod? My mind is made up … although it would be an easy decision since my 2 year old would probably break either, might as well go for the cheaper alternative.

The Dragonfly isn’t a robot at all, considering that’s primarily what WowWee does now, but it may arguably be the most fun. It’s a bit of a challenge to learn to fly well, and the trick (spinning free fall) you saw in the video is new to me, and I’ve been playing with for a while!

What no VIDEO? Went to their site but couldn’t find anything either?

I thought the Ologic robot was pretty cool too…it doesn’t fly, but it had an interesting little personality….

@Robert: if I were you - clear that I am absolutely not :) - I would order them a couple of flying Robert Scoble and hand them out to people who suffer from scoblenvy.

Although they have one of the worst commercials I have ever seen, the chimp “Wowee Alive” over on their website looks awesome. A perfect thing to break out in the middle of a party, when everyone has a little buzz.

That looks pretty fun. That said, I don’t have 5$ much less 50$, so I’m left to simply admire.

The heck with the Apple/Cisco wars, this is cool! My 8 year old daughter saw me playing the video just now and now she wants one. :-)

That’s awesome! I’m definitely going to have to get one.
That could be fun at work too, I can just imagine the receptionist’s face when a large robotic dragonfly buzzes her cubicle.

Neat toy, now put GPS and video on it and you have really got something.

I don’t see the dragonfly on their site after waiting the several minutes for their site to load — not everybody is on high speed all the time, but they forget apparently as there was no bypass.
We fly remote control helicopters sometimes and they aren’t easy. I gotta believe this little gem is more difficult to keep airborn. Wonder how many you go through before you master it.

[...] Robert Scoble posted about the Dragonfly (produced by WooWee last night at CES. A picture of the flying (it seems the name is fitting) Dragonfly is located at the Technology Evangelist. Brian Benz posted a video available at his blog, visit the post here. [...]

Hmm Robot Dragonfly? Might need some work on the concept - some flash memory (say 100gig), wireless connectivity, large display, and 3megpix camera and Apple may have its next big thing. Behold we have the idragonfly.
