Steven Levy of Newsweek blogs

Oh, Steven Levy, why are you trying to mess up a good deal? We all know that Apple doesn’t consider bloggers worthy of talking to. So, now that you’re blogging, aren’t you afraid that Steve won’t call you up anymore and give you exclusive looks at iPods and other things?

But, seriously, welcome to the bloggy world. I am real sorry I missed you when you dropped by the BlogHaus. I hear that both you and John Markoff of the New York Times dropped by and stayed for a couple of hours (I was working on the show floor when they dropped by).

So, does that mean that John is going to start blogging too?

According to Jobs, this is how they get tonnes of free publicity. It’s all well calculated:

“Apple’s secretive manner of releasing information about its new products was carefully devised to gain maximum publicity and gained the company millions in free publicity that it would otherwise forego. Apple employees had, for money, provided information to the bloggers, and should be exposed.”

Hey Robert, I am from india. We have a saying that translates to “one with a brother isn’t even afraid of an army”

    How true in your case….

Reg deigo’s value for money claim – i am yet to come across a person who justifies a higher priced produt using that line.

The other common thing about fanboys is the obvious anti microsoft feeling. So the reason for fanboy-ism is not ‘passion’ or ‘search for excellence’. it’s just the anti msft hate. That’s why every discussion about apple has the fanboys trying to prove how aaple is superior to microsoft.

Not true. Well not for me anyway. So don’t put me in that boat. I am passionate about Apple. Plain and simple. Microsoft is very uninspiring. So for me, yes, it’s about being passionate.

Yes, some commenters on this blog criticize Robert — with good reason. The man has virtually no analytical thinking skills and throws tantrums like a four-year-old child.

BUT, the number of Scoble sycophants far outnumbers the occasionally critical, as anyone reading this thread can tell. For every Lazy, there are at least two Francines performing verbal fellatio on Robert. I find people like that much more irritating because they NEVER have anything substantive to say. The critics are at least well-informed.

As for Roberts’ current hissy fit, it is about his ego. Not only will Steve Jobs not give him the time of day, Robert attended what turned out to be the wrong convention and even got dissed by Bill Gates while there. He had a bad week and is taking it out on Apple.

    P.S.:

So, Ben Scoble is the family bigot, eh? Mo wonder he resides in Virginia.

@12 How do we know what the hell he means half the time? He’s either not completely reading articles to which he links and thus missing the points (Cuban, Nick Carr) or he’s pulling facts out of his ass. So, I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said “Z list bloggers” (he didn’t say “at least” so I won’t put words in his mouth). So, I simply asked for examples of Ballmer and Ozzie talking with…okay…how’s this….”lesser known bloggers”? Do you have examples if them engaging directly with lesser known bloggers. If we are going to hold Jobs to some type of standard, we might as well hold his peers to the same standard.

    >Robert attended what turned out to be the wrong convention

That’s funny. One had 2,700 vendors. The other had one. It’s also funny that most of the journalists who went to MacWorld flew back to CES to finish their coverage of CES. Many more words were written about CES in end analysis.

OK, Apple had the hottest product. No doubt there. But it was only one. They didn’t have any car stereos. They didn’t have any robots. They didn’t have any home stereos. They didn’t have any plasmas. They didn’t have any new PCs. And they didn’t have the adult entertainment industry.

I love Apple fans. They assume the world revolves around Apple and Apple alone.

It’s a funny distortion field Steve Jobs throws on you.

LayZ: Ozzie comes to O’Reilly’s conferences and hangs out with all bloggers (he also came to Dave Winer’s OPML meeting where he hung around afterward and talked with everyone). I’ve never seen Steve Jobs just hang around bloggers and/or tech geeks and talk with them.

While i certainly respect your gripe about Apple not talking to bloggers, i don’t understand the bending over backward to take shots at Apple. I guy starts blogging and you turn it into an attack on Apple. Is the next post going to be:

“Bush sends more troops to Iraq! To bad they won’t be able to use an Apple TV there to watch 1080i content, or use the iPhone because it won’t work there.”

You certainly give the impression that give the impression that you have an axe to grind with the company and will jump at any chance to take potshots at them.

So how did a post about Steven Levy of Newsweek blogging turn into a religion war about Apple?

Oh yeah, that’s right… barely 2 hours after saying “I can get some sleep” Robert mentions Apple in a post that has nothing to do with Apple.

You sound a bit jealous Robert. Maybe you need to get some sleep?

One vendor at MacWorld? Get a clue, Scoble. There were 400 vendors. Not 2700 admittedly, but maybe if your could get your accuracy level above 2%, you might, big “might”, get treated like 2% of a journalist.

@31 – Diego, I’m sorry. You are not even eligible to get an enrollment application to ‘The Club’. You don’t call names, you dont get in to a fit of rage every time Steve Jobs or Apple is mentioned in a not so positive light.;-)

@32 – It’s not about criticizm. It’s about personal attacks and namecalling.

@33 – I strongly think you understand what Robert means. And mostly i agree with what you have to say. But certainly not this time. The ‘Z list’ issue came in when he answered to someone who claimed he was showing “A list mentality”.

    @40 – “There were 400 vendors”
Really. You’ve got me there. I didnt find a mention of any of the 399 other vendors in Techmeme. Those vendors should really think if it’s worth going to a expo where they don’t even get covered. (But what do i know, they probably were listed like how they list actor names at the end of movies-

    Waiter #1 – John Doe
    Waiter #2 – Jane Doe
    CO-Passenger #1 – …)

I don’t even want to waste my time typing them all, but a few would be: google news, nyt, engadget, gizmodo, cnet news, arstechnica, neowin, activewin, macdailynews, appleinsider, tuaw, macrumors, computerwould, pcmag, wired, valleywag, techmeme, gigaom, crunchgear, slashdot, the register, win info, microsoft watch…

    but that’s a short list.

Conversely, why is an exclusive window a good thing? Do you think anyone is impressed with that narrow-minded and absurd view? I can’t imagine anyone is.

You aware that techmeme doesn’t have any ‘own artciles’ and just links to the hot topics from other sites? All – as in *ALL* – the sites you have mentioned get linked by techmeme. When i say techmeme i thought it was obvious that i was refering to the websites whose artciles appear on techmeme.

Umm, you’re an idiot. How’s that for meaningful. Thousand upon thousands of articles never appear on TechMeme on a daily basis. All, as in all, tech articles are not on techmeme.

I’m really waiting on your meaningful answer as to why it’s so brilliant to sit and look at one site and one site only. Clearly you missed tons of MacWorld coverage and somehow this is my fault because your web browser and internet connection only allow you to visit one site.
