January 21 “museum day”

Hugh Macleod is leading a group to the Tate Modern in London. That’s a great idea to get some culture (it’s a great museum — if you live in London, you definitely should visit). We’re going to head to Sacramento’s Train Museum (world’s largest) for a Photowalking with Thomas Hawk. We’ll be there at 1 p.m. You’re invited. Seagate has donated a bunch of 8GB Compact Flash storage cards for me to give away as prizes, so we’ll have some photo contests there too.

Hello from Las Vegas airport. Where the wifi is free but the video poker games are not. :-)

  • So did you get any time at the slots or the gaming tables at all or was it work work work? I wonder how many geeks there for CES actually spent serious time and money gambling. Which was the bigger draw - toys or gaming?

    My favorite museum in London. I'd like to see Hugh do some representations of their sculpture collection - an abstraction of an abstraction.

    Alfred, CES attendees are notorious for not indulging in any of Vegas' lucrative vices. Just ask a cab driver--everyone in the service industry there absolutely hates CES week.

  • Robert, please turn off Snap Previews - I hate those things so much. The really interrupt your flow when your just cruising your mouse across the page. Please, make it stop. I don't even know what this post is about because I was stopped in my tracks by one of those previews. Something about a train?

  • I really like the Snap previews Robert and use them myself. I like that I can get a little more information on a link before deciding to make the jump or not and it seem intuitively more intelligent to me. But I think Snap is going to be one of those love it or hate it type of things. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and have had people comment to me both ways.

    Chris, you can trurn the previews off in the options (top right of a bubble) rather than asking robert to disable them for all of us.

    I still think they're intrusive. I recall when ask.com did something similar (screenshot previews) and I hated those too.

    I wanted to reach out to you in regards to Snap Preview Anywhere™.

    Since before CES we were planning a number of 'end user' enhancements based upon the large amount of feedback we got from our BETA test with Matt at Wordpress.com on his 10% blogs roll out.

    Since then we have made those enhancements and they have been included in the latest release of the product.

    a. Added an 'Options' menu to allow End Users to control of certain aspects of the Preview Bubble.
    b. End Users can 'Set Delay' of Preview Bubble
    c. End Users can 'Opt-Out' of Preview Bubble (Site Specific or for ALL sites)

    The response we got from that first test was overwhelmingly positive and so Matt rolled it out to the entire Wordpress.com hosted blog community.

    There were a number of influencial Blog personalities that we got in touch with directly, but due to how quickly things progressed with the test and ultimate roll out, there were some crossed paths and not everyone was able to read our emails due to CES and Macworld activities.
