Welcome from Forbes, but…
I see a lot of people coming here from a Forbes list of who they think are the top 25 Internet Celebrities. I’m very honored to be #9 on that list, but a couple of things I’d like to correct. First, I’m a tech blogger, the article says I’m a political blogger. Both my blog here, and my video show at http://www.scobleshow.com (more videos coming today), are mostly about the tech industry. Second, there’s no mention of PodTech, which, is more important to me now than leaving Microsoft. A good place to learn about me is on the Wikipedia page about me. Oh, and I have a Wikipedia policy. I will not edit my page, nor will I pay anyone to edit that page on my behalf, and if I ever want something changed on that page, I’ll just blog it so it’ll be out in the open and transparent. I have not written a single word on that Wikipedia page and I’m quite amazed at how complete and accurate it is. Thank you to whoever contributes to that page.
I agree with Mike Arrington: I can think of 100 people who are more deserving (and who are more interesting than me). I also am not real happy being on a list where the #1 person is a fictional person. Personally, I’d rather give up my spot on that list to someone who actually DID something for the Web. Tim Berners-Lee or Dave Winer or Tim Bray come to mind (the first Tim invented the Web, Dave invented RSS/OPML/XML-RPC, Tim Bray co-invented XML).
I’m still mostly taking this week off of my blog. I’m totally snowed under with email and other tasks. Did four interviews yesterday that you’ll really like. And on Tuesday I got a good look at the Stanford Linear Accelerator and interviewed the team that did the first Web site in the United States. Really amazing people there.
Oh, I wish I could get to Lunch 2.0 today at Meebo. You’re invited. So was I, but I have to chew through my task list.

Apparently they changed it already to Tech Blogger…

I was pretty ticked that they labeled you as a political blogger. How did they screw that one up?

“I will not edit my page, nor will I pay anyone to edit that page on my behalf.”
CLASSY!

More people probably know about Lonely Girl than the rest of the list, if you were to, say, poll a wide swath of people who are not aware of what RSS is, ie., not-tech-blogosphere-people.

Interesting that the Getty photographers get credited (and I assume paid) but that the web photographers don’t.

Congrats, it’s certainly well deserved.
By the way, it looks like they’ve changed your description to “Tech blogger” now.

If you actually invented anything valuable enough that was worth protecting from detractors by hiring an independent contractor, your boast “nor will I pay anyone to edit that page on my behalf” might mean something. As it stands, it doesn’t.

Forbes Web Celeb 25 Are Mostly Nobodies
Forbes has put together its list of the twenty five most popular Internet “celebrities” (see The Web Celeb 25). What’s interesting about this is just how shallow the pool of Internet celebrities seems to be: most of these people real…

as we’ve all been saying AGAIN and AGAIN… that you’ve been posting far too much POLITICAL junk. No wonder Forbes got confused.
How many more people have to point this out before you believe us?
January 25th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
It’s a list of the most popular/famous, not most deserving. So, while it’s nice of you and Arrington to do the whole humble bit, but you are talking about apples and oranges!
Not that you wouldn’t be on a most deserving/interesting list, of course! :-)

Robert,
I agree with teknologist @ 14, when you dip your toes into anything poloitical, you get consumed by it. I know your intention was to show the tech side of politics, and if I had the chance, I would have done the same.
I would have posted to a new blog about anything political so as to keep a seperation between my passion (tech) and this opportunity.
You have the readership to overcome this, however, you will suffer several mistakes like this (Forbes article).
Stay away from politics or at least, keep it somewhere else!

And of course Forbes missed the point that any global top (substitute your favorite number) list is made relatively insignificant by our web enabled ability to find exactly what we want within our own individualized needs and preferences. But it is good to see some bloggers like yourself on the list.

What an awful web page that forbes thing is.
An auto slide show that defaults at high speed so scobles blurb gets sucked to the next before I knew what was going on.
Awful web design.

Congratulations. Even though I hate hollywoodization of tech - it was bound to happen -silicon and valley being common to both.

Robert you would make a great VP, or someone in the new administration’s cabinet. :)

Congrats. While I do think they got a lot of the influential bloggers on there, I think the research was a little sloppy… in addition to the tech / political messup, seems like they just yanked down the most obvious photos they could find - like Mike Arrington’s was just him at the ball game from his about page … there are much better photos out there. But still, what bugs me the most is how big media sites are breaking up numerical list articles into multiple pages in likely a plot to increase page views… blah.
But anyhow, ignore my rant… congrats on being an influencial blogger. You certainly are in my book! I look forward to reading your posts daily.

I have to agree that you’ve had too many political posts since the John Edwards announcement. Your shared links definitely bear out this point, too. Frankly, I wish you’d just stick to technology.
I know. I know. Seemingly, your point is NOT to be political, but to highlight how the new media will influence politics, which is a discussion that is continually amplified in the political blogosphere already.
You excel at geekery and technology–and those are definitely the posts I most enjoy reading.

I say just bask in the love. :) Sure, people made important protocols that we all use, but you’ve played a large role in the rise of blogging too.
