[Tongue-in-cheek] Yes Robert there is a Santa Claus …and… Edwards wants money. But it wasn’t money that he was/is after in courting your voice. I think Edwards was/is just reading the writing on the … blog! The money, or real value, that you offer is FREE name exposure. Every time you mention his candidacy or any part of the process Edwards gets his name in front of all those “eye balls”.

It should be illegal for any politician to ask for money. If people want to run, they should foot the bills. Full stop. If you’re serious, campaign with your own funds.

If I were but in charge, I’d make the following illegal:

1. Contributions to political campaigns.
2. Government subsidies to any corporation.
3. Lobbying the government at any level by anyone.
4. All politicians should be forced to live at the same basic level as the constituents they represent. I don’t want to vote for someone who is going to live in a mansion with servents, being driven around in a Mercedes in the lap of luxury with a bar full of single malt whiskey. If politians are serious, let them show it by paying their own way.

You think my ideas are stupid? Next time you want to go get another degree, ask your elected officials for a contribution to foot the bill. Or, ask for money when you need to repair your house, or buy a car. You’d be laughed out of their richly-appointed offices as a moron.

The Democrats preach about social programs and the need to raise taxes to help. Whenever they’re in office, I see nothing done to help anyone. The politicians get an annual pay raise, though, while the rest of us actually have to work.

This cracks me up! Edwards came for money? Did you see that great big ugly house the “man of the little people” bought himself recently?

If I were a leftie, I’d be damn embarassed that Edwards has the chutzpah to keep repeating that schtick about “Two Americas” and then show everyone which one HE lives in.

Like I said in post number 4, politicians should be forced to live like their constituents and in a neighborhood WITH their constituents, not walled off, hidden in a million dollar home with servants and single malt whiskey.

Edwards should have to give back all the millions he made off ‘the little people’ for speaking for dead children and all the other creepy stuff he does in the courtroom.

But since he’s the biggest house in the county, I’m sure he’ll have no problem paying all those millions in taxes now.

Does he not look like a guy who thinks he needs a bit of space for the presidential helipad??

Geez, not in my lifetime! America doesnt like having to look at the losers from last year’s race. Kerry had to good sense to realize nobody wanted him in the first place, let alone another go round.

The GOP is just as bad as the Democrats. They are all bad. We need to elect libertarians, not baby killers or war mongers.

And, before you get started, I served in the military during GW1. I know what’s at stake. Iraq needs to be handed over to the Iraqi’s to govern now. We’ve deposed the despot. Time to get out. Israel will handle Iran if they get out of hand. We need to focus less on playing global policeman and more on securing our own borders.

I used to love to travel to other countries, but more and more, as an American, I looked down on simply because I am American. Thankfully, the country I enjoy most is pro-American, despite being in the EU. I know alot of Americans who wear Canadian Maple Leaf caps while in Europe just to avoid getting jeered at. It’s as easy as pie to spot the “ugly American” while in Europe; they all wear white tennis shoes and are loud.

Seriously, we need to focus on killing terrorist, not securing Iraq. Let’s become more like the Israelis in our outlook on terrorists.

I agree that Israel has a good handle on the killing of terrorists. But once again, we have John Kerry out there calling the US ‘the bad guys’ instead of the real culprits.

With idiots like this, within our own govt, America just continues to founder on the world stage. Used to be, that was treasonous and the US wouldnt stand for it. Now days, we get the Jane Fondas out there getting more attention for being a hollyweird celebrity than actually *doing* anything about the issue.

I like some of the libertarian issues, but I dont see any viable candidates for them in my neck of the woods.

In the final analysis, as long as people fear God the Father, trust in Jesus Christ, live God-pleasing lives, and keep their families Christian all while living as Christians for others, that’s all that matters. God will take care of the rest in the end.

All I care about is making sure my family does the moral things. I work my ass off, I attend church, I have morals. I support what is right. It’s all I can do.

Sounds like you’ve got a great life going on!

It’s what we strive for as well. If I can raise moral kids who know right from wrong, who respect others and know Christ, I will feel I’ve been a decent mom.

You argue in circles. I remember you bringing up Howard Dean. He raised more money than anyone and lost in Iowa.

It worked for wine with stormhoek so why not politics too? After all, too much of both can leave you feeling sick…

It’s as much the money as how you spend it. I guess I figured you would put that together. Dean didn’t know how to spend his money. He failed to capitalize on his war chest. He failed to develop an effective national organization or get the necessary institutional support to give his candidacy momentum. Dean failed to figure out how to manage the media (no amount of blogging will help here), or get the respect of his party either.

You talk like all anyone has to do is win Iowa then coast to victory. Iowa is an important barometer to be sure, but it doesn’t guarantee victory. Heck, Gephardt won Iowa in ’88. Where did he end up? Bush came in 3rd in Iowa in ’88 and ended up winning the nomination. Hell, Reagan lost Iowa in 1980 to Bush. And we all recall how badly he trounced Carter that year. So, while Iowa is a critical test, in the end it’s how well you capitalize on any momentum you get from it.

People spend a lot of money to elect their candidate because getting their candidate elected is worth a lot of money. If you don’t like the amount of money being spent, make getting elected worth less.
