Thank you Seagate
While on the plane I learned that Seagate has signed up for another sponsorship of ScobleShow.com. Pretty sizeable deal and I really appreciate having the ability to do another 100+ videos like we did in the first phase of their sponsorship.

Nice to have a sugar-daddy sponsor. Beats paying for it yourself. Doesn’t your employer have the money for this kind of stuff or are you guys still so nascent that all you can do is afford an office and salaries?
Robert, not to pry, but since your company is not public, how exactly does ROI fit in here? What are you offering and to whom to make it worth the whiles of whomever to do business with you.

Robert, while I don’t agree with everything you say or do I appreciate the openness and transparency of what you are doing here. That extends to the rough edges around the videos, the sound, etc. We are moving in some small but meaningful way from a world where information comes to us edited, polished, devoid of authenticity. The gap between how we exchange ideas with friends, family, spouses and how we get ideas from “strangers” is narrowing. You’ve said all of this better yourself. As a non-tech person who would not be drawn in if it weren’t for the humanity that you add, I say thank you. You may wrong sometimes (human), inconsistent (human), angry (human). But isn’t that (at least a part of) the point. Keep it up.

Interesting that you use the words “sugar-daddy.”
Do you work for free? How do you pay your mortgage? How do you buy equipment to do your work? How do you pay for gas, food, and employee salaries?
I don’t call someone who helps me do all that “a sugar-daddy.”
A sugar-daddy is someone who just hands you cash for sitting on your back.
I work my behind off for my viewers, doing more videos than anyone else on the Internet that I can find.
But, the ROI is for Seagate to decide. This is the second time they’ve signed a sponsorship deal with me. So, I bet that if you talked with them they’d say the ROI is worth it.
My work is all at http://www.scobleshow.com — nothing doing that you don’t see. It’s all there.

In the midst of your trials, I wanted to tell you to keep up the good work.
I hope you enjoy the trip to Demo.

Robert,
Thank you for being honest, but what I still don’t get is what’s in it for Seagate? They expect something back, whether it’s sales or their name being associated with hip blogs, something…
I in no way inferred you don’t earn your way.
Please explain, because while I’ve been a nerd since the early 80’s and in tech now for almost 10 years, I fail to see how some of these companies even get VCs to look at them.
I remember back in the heydey of the Internet, say 1998-2000 — VCs would give money to dogs if they requested it. Some of the sites I see on the Internet don’t even deserve to be companies. This obviously doesn’t apply to you, since the geek dinners, etc. are something of new ground — unpolished looks into reality while still being fun.
Please try and field my questions…

Peter: I just heard about one conversation here at Demo. Someone walked up to the guy who was on my video and said “I saw you this morning on ScobleShow.”
Oh, and about 700 bloggers and journalists showed up at BlogHaus at CES. Why? At least partly my show. (We promised them only something like 80, so the ROI is pretty high). If you run a company, tell me how much you would have to spend to have a personal “touch” with 700 bloggers and journalists? I’ll tell you: a lot more than what Seagate paid.
But, I actually asked Seagate’s CEO why he sponsored my show. You can listen to his answer here: http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1235/seagates-ceo-talks-about-hard-drive-business

This morning I watched the video about the new Seagate HD with BlueTooth and WiFi with great interest. Later when I was in OfficeMax I stopped by and looked at what Seagate had on the shelf. At some point this year I’ll but another HD or two and they will most likely be Seagates. They work great. They look snappy. The price is usually right. They are always getting their brand in front of me. Sounds like someone in marketing (and R&D and production) is doing something right.
And Scoble, congrats!

[...] sets the records straight. I just want some of that dumb Intel money! Maybe some of that Seagate money too. Or how ’bout just giving us hard drives? That reminds me of Tom Rielly (of PlanetOut fame) [...]

Robert, I think you do a great job. Seeing inside Intel was fantastic. I like your ‘unedited’ interviews. They may be a tad long sometimes, but at least everything is there. Enjoy Demo.

I have a Seagate External HDD because you and Thomas Hawk used them and I rather liked the very candid “we make drives for storing more p0rn” comment from their CEO.

Hi Robert,
Love your stuff. Like others have stated, I too appreciate the openness and transparency you provide. As for the few “Haters” out there making references to “sugar daddy”, they really don’t dignify a response. Some get how money is made and others don’t/won’t!
