Best recovery from a failing demo

Wow, Total Immmersion’s technology relies on 3D objects interacting on screen with real ones. The problem was their demo wasn’t working. But the presentation team kept working the problem, got it working, and did a stunning demo. That’s called grasping success out of the jaws of defeat.

I can’t explain what this stuff does. I will get a video demo. It’s amazing stuff, though.

    Won't people learn to try their stuff beforehand? :)

  • brem: it was a technical issue. Couldn't be planned for. They reran their demo in front of the crowd at lunch and everything worked well.
  • Robert: Most technical issues can be dealt with if you run tests on-place.

    I understand it's not always possible to try before doing a "public" demo.

    However, when you plug and pray, Murphy's Law is usually about to strike.

    And might I add, especially when it comes to Computer Vision (my field of expertise), the environment you use the equipment with is very important. A change in the use of fluorescent (blue tinted vs. red tinted for example) can result in the algorithms to not work anymore.

    Anyhoo... their stuff is neat nonetheless. ;)
  • brem: it was a camera issue. Someone messed up. Sometimes stuff happens on stage that's totally out of your control. This stuff was all tested before the show started and it worked then.

    Things can get messed up. Its only news when it keeps recurring for the same company or same person.
