New blog software to watch: habari

What is Habari?

It’s a new group that’s building new blog software. Why do I care? Because it’ll be interesting to see what a new group comes up with and because I saw several blogs (especially on Chris Davis‘ blog) mention it today.

I’ve seen this happen several times and new companies almost always result out of the effort.

Interesting that at least some people feel that Automattic’s and Six Apart’s things aren’t good enough and want to run in a new direction. I wish them luck and will be watching them.

It’s gonna be big – they’ve got some great minds in the usability-meets-ajax department who “left” wordpress over the “shuttle”-incident

Nikolaj: what was the “shuttle” incident? I didn’t hear about that.

UPDATE: Nevermind, I found this post, which gives more details about what’s behind Habari. http://www.brokenkode.com/archives/habari/

Shuttle, the project where they tried to prettify the WordPress admin interface? C’mon Nikolaj, give us the dirt.

The developer of my favorite WP fork, K2, is also involved with Habari, so I am looking forward to checking it out.

Scooble! So glad you have seen the light!

I’ve been covering Habari since the beginning and we’re like BFF.

When you are ready to abandon this pain-inducing WordPress.CON crippleware I will personally copy and paste every single one of your posts and comments into a fresh and clean Habari install. (There is an importer somewhere, but you deserve a personal touch.)

    Hey Robert,

Thanks for the mention, and for the good luck wishes. We are very excited to see what a more community driven development model can produce, and of course what we can do while pushing technology to its limits.

Things will get very interesting when the Developer Preview ships, and a larger community of users can see what Habari has to offer.

Great news. I’ve done many MT installs, worked on publisher versions of blog systems and I have always been found wanting. I moved all my biz and personal blogs to WP and have enjoyed the community, free plugins and responsiveness. That said, I’m ready for the next generation of blog systems. WPMU and corp Sixapart systems are either too broken or too much. Let us run a few blogs off same system, make it easy to set up and easier to upgrade without having to manually do diffs on templates folders.

I think it is important to point out here that we don’t consider ourselves as “WP and SA killers” or anything. In fact we have been in touch with a prominent member of the Six Apart family, laying down plans for our two communities to work together to improve blogging for everyone.

Our hope is that we can have the same kind of relationship with Automattic, and WP.org. From what I have seen already that shouldn’t be a problem either.

Sounds and looks like an amazing project. I’ll keep an eye on it :-) .

I think Habari looks (see installed version) like WordPress :P , but the Dashboard looks very nice.
