Free headaches!
I just checked out Hiten Parmar’s blog. Why? Cause he writes that I give him a headache. Anyone who gets a headache here probably has an interesting point of view. Actually, Hiten, if you don’t like my editorials, unsubscribe from here, and check out my link (er, item) blog. I don’t editorialize there, I just pick the best items every day for you. Here’s my current stats, as reported from Google Reader:
From your 554 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 24,998 items, starred 0 items, and shared 1,349 items.
So, if you read my link blog, you’ll get a more complete look at the top tech blogs (I put tons of stuff on it that are deserving of your attention, but never get on Digg or TechMeme) and you won’t have to read 25,000 items to do it.
UPDATE: Loren Feldman is keeping a list of people who hate him. Chris Pirillo hates Loren, Chris just told me. Yes, Chris and I are both up at 2:14 a.m. watching fun stuff on the Internet. I wonder what Ze Frank is doing at 2:14 a.m. (er, 5:14 a.m.) Probably sleeping. Slacker!

I notice in your Google Reader statistics you have “0″ starred items. That’s also true in my link blog.
I know that I don’t understand how or why one would star an item, but I’m surprised you haven’t found a use for the feature. Come on, Robert, we rely on you to lead the way. ;-)

Perry: starring makes sense if you want to only mark things as important for yourself to pull out later. Think of Sharing as “public” important things, and “starting” as “private” important things.

Thanks for sharing your understanding of it. I just thought I might be missing some important insight about the feature, but apparently not. If that’s all there is to it, it’s sort of a yawner then.

Nah, it’s just that my avatar doesn’t reveal me in all my glory. ;-)

As well as sharing I star items that I want to come back to … in conjunction I use labels to mark why I want to come back to those posts, just in case I forget. I also use the starred items on my personal blog (starred items can be shared too) - this becomes a way of sharing “fun” rather than work stuff with friends who read my blog.

PS: I would pay for you to do this you know, an annual subscribtion … you make life so much easier! I go through your Shared Items, sharing the ones relevant to my company … this then gets fed into the company’s Confluence KB. (And now I have used Yahoo pipes to merge several relevant feeds into one …)

“I put tons of stuff on it that are deserving of your attention”
How do you know it’s deserving of our attention? What criteria are you using? Yours? When was it determined you were the sole filter?

LayZ: you read it for a month and you tell me.
