The problem with Twitter, er, first twittercamp?

I want to go to sleep. But I made the mistake of posting on Twitter a few minutes ago. Here’s the exchange:

  • Scobleizer Irina: get back to work! Heheh.
  • chrispirillo @Scoble: Dude, that is a magic couch. If you turned on the fireplace, you’d have been asleep hours ago.
  •  Scobleizer chrispirillo: it’s so weird when you say I’m one floor down from you right now. Your couch rocks, by the way. I’m off to sleep.
  • irinaslutsky scoble: yay!
  • chrispirillo @Scoble: Dude, I think we’re having the world’s first unofficial twittercamp.
  • Scobleizer rachelclarke: you’re up early to talk to me cause I’m up late.
  • chrispirillo @Scoble: i don’t have half as many followers as you. Then again, how geeky is it that you’re one floor down from me right now?
  • Scobleizer ssethi: when are you bringing those CEOs to the valley? I’d love to be there. Everyone: help chrispirillo with Gnomedex speaker/sponsors.
  • ssethi C2C announced in the guardian. Oli Barratt and I are taking 30+ Euro startup CEO’s to the valley in June with party at the end
  • rachelclarke why am I awake this early?
  • *sobs* I normally just hollar into the twitter ethersphere and hear my own echo :(
  • Now I can see all the exchanges in one place...makes more sense! But the one-sideness of the system makes it fun and surreal.

    I have not yet unsubscribed b/c you are still a good source for catching up on what's going on. But this Twitter crap is killing me.

  • okay I don't get it. Call me an ol' fart but really other than creating yet another clique - especially if you don't open up to the Public Timeline - in which you need to be in the know and connected.

    Don't get me wrong I'm not a total tweeb on this - after all I did create an account but I'm still trying to figure out the why of this.

    You managed to get 12 posts on your "inane" posting! Damn, I haven't gotten 12 posts period on my blog since I've been writing (not counting the spam comments).

    Guess that goes to show you that when you are on the A list everything is GOLD! ;-)

  • I just didn't understand the significance of this conversation. I didn't know any of those people were your employees. I don't know what you are all talking about. It seemed to me like a snippet of a conversation copied and pasted without any context. Your second, angrier post explained things a little better.

    I looked at twitter and concluded I'm not yet depressed enough or hate my job enough to be able to add to the conversations happening there.
  • I like Twitter but lately I'm getting tired of talking to the air.

    I reply to things that you and Pirillo and Molly and all kinds of people say, but none of you ever "hear" me because, while I'm "following" you lot, you aren't following me back.

    So I talk and talk to you, and you have no idea.

    Totally high school all over again.
  • I thought they were contractors, not employees. They seem like entrepreneurs from where I sit.
  • Heather: they are employees. The best employees are entrepreneurial.

    Dan: that's a major problem of Twitter. I want the ability to add all my followers.

    I'm totally underwhelmed by Twitter. I can't honestly see it lasting too long even though there's people who seem to be having fun with it at the moment. All I can get from it really is that's akin to an IM app which others are allowed to read. Big deal, and quite frankly in the example above pretty boring. My day would have to be excruciatingly dull for me to get excited by the above 'conversation' and post it to my blog. I doubt Robert will be using Twitter 6 months from now.
  • I'm also having a hard time getting excited about Twitter. It just seems so junior high. We tried to set it up for a work "presence" system since I work in a distributed company, but it just didn't seem to stick.

    Have you seen twitteroo.com? That's what got me to even try it to start with.

    Don't worry about DWeatherly. DWeatherly.ScobleSubcribe.Trojan.EXE is set to go live March 1.
  • Jon: Twitter +is+ Jr. High. But I'm enjoying it.
