NASCAR has killer PVR system

by on April 10, 2007

David Sparks, last night, was raving about NASCAR’s new PVR system that lets officials compare many different parts of the track all at the same time. eWeek has a writeup about the system.

Differnt strokes for differnt folks. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. You betcha Fi is high tech, but don't downplay Nascar so much. There is a lot of high tech in there too!

Seriously, NASCAR is a redneck sport. Why do we care? Talk F1, now, that's state of the art Tech. Not to mention their engines are smaller than NASCAR and the cars are still faster.

I'm afraid that more people are aware of NASCAR than most of the subjects that we concider important here.

And Robert if you ever want to cover more Tech in the racing world, look into Formula 1,it's the penicle in the racing world with the kind of budget to match.
In F1 software, electronics, Mechanical engineering and aerodynamics comes together in a way you won't see anywhere else.
  • From a PVR standpoint, maybe this is cool. But from a racing standpoint, Indy Racing League has "let's look at the video" beat hands down: the telemetry in every car determines the exact ranking at any point in the race, green or yellow:

"I’m sure there’s lots of geeks who don’t follow NASCAR" Don't forget to add the rest of the world to that list :)
  • I'm sure there's lots of geeks who don't follow NASCAR and many more who probably follow it a little bit, but not enough to see the tech used behind the scenes.

Yawn! I guess if you don't follow NASCAR this would be news. To NASCAR fans this is old news.
