TV Tonic: video for Media Center PCs
Oh, and don’t think Apple is the only one that can play cool Internet videos like Ask a Ninja, Ze Frank, or Alive from Baghdad.
If you have a Windows Vista computer, along with an Xbox 360, you can get those videos pulled down automatically too with TV Tonic. Here Michael Sprague, president of TV Tonic, gives a demo of how it works (that’s the video embedded on this post). Seperately I have a longer interview with Michael along with an edited highlights piece (we call those Editor’s Choice) for those of you who don’t have much time to watch video. The Editor’s Choice videos are where my editor, Rocky, takes my interview and demo videos and cuts out all the boring parts and gives you just the best stuff.

Works fine for me on XP with media center. Even without an xbox. been using it for 2 years.
Apple is late to the party on this one.

Robert,
The TVTonic is a great product. Xbox 360 is great. Media Center is great.
Problem is the codecs, the streaming ones.
The good shows are in Mpeg 4. You can download ‘em all you want, but you can’t stream them to your Xbox without a few dozen certainly “not in the box” hacks.

Oh yeah, and before you hit the “the new update to Xbox 360 ads mp4″ thing, remember that it doesn’t hit it for streaming to xbox.

Correct me if I’m wrong but TV Tonic will only stream WMV files correct? Most video podcasts are not in WMV so it makes the AppleTV more appealing if watching video podcasts is your goal.

Josh: not correct. My show works on TV Tonic and it’s not a WMV format.

Robert,
But, … I can’t stream your show to my Xbox 360.
I can stream it to my Apple TV.
(and I don’t need Media Center for my Apple TV)

Hey Paul,
Actually, you can stream ScobleShow to your XBox 360. Just subscribe to his WMV feed, listed under the Technology category in our guide.

Andre,
Didn’t know he had a WMV feed - now we just need a WMV feed for Ninja, ZeFrank, and the 97 other shows that don’t have one.
Or, of course, I could just use my Apple TV.
TVTonic ROCKS. It’s a great product and I’ve been using accordingly - the problem is - not enough Podcasters do WMV yet.
We get Podcasters doing WMV (cause Xbox ain’t doing MP4) and you’re on to something.
And, of course, a decent Media PC hooked up to my TV would have been cheaper than my cheap PC and Xbox combo - but that’s another story all together.

And, by the way, you might not want Scoble telling his core demographic that his show ain’t in WMV. ;-)
See #6.
